Both sides will have to accept the blame for what has taken place. Pro sports is a business for the athletes, the management, and agents. For the fans it is about loyalty and adulation. Too bad that it had to end this way.

This all could have been avoided had Steve McNair wanted to avoid it. Make no bones about that.

Steve will never want for money in his life time nor would he have had he taken less money to stay a Tennessee Titan. Still Steve McNair made a concious decision to turn his back on the Tennessee Titans organization.

None of this would have ever had happened had Steve McNair truly wanted to remain and retire as a Tennessee Titan. Never ever forget that. This was Steve McNair's choice and it is why his legacy will be tarnished in Tennessee.

It cuts both ways. The Titans created McNairs cap situation. He was playing under a deal both sides agreed to. And the team drafted a QB with their third pick who needs to be on the field by '07. You can't blame McNair for wanting to start another few years if he can.

Sometimes, stuff just shakes out a certain way. It was no longer a good situation here and you move on.

"What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week
Which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N' I don't like it any more than you men."

Any time a former super star gets near the end of their career almost any scenario outside of a sudden, surprising retirement in the off-season is going to be ugly. Montana played with the Chiefs his last couple of years and he was three times the legend at QB for the 49ers McNair has been for the Titans. There is a long list of vet players that had to go through this kind of termination of their career. Things could have been handled better but it was going to be tough either way.

Precisely. And a really long list too. I was hoping for the story book ending...oh well. We press on with pride.
