Yeah there are a few Wheel of Time books, are they by George R. R. Martin?

Never read them though.

Robert Jordan is the guy's name. Looks like there's 12 books. I gotta get threw Harry Potter and Stephen King's Dark Tower before I can start any other long reading projects.

What is Flight of the Nighthawks about? Is it part of a series?

Fantasy genre like Jordan (and Martin - he writes some other series).

It is by Raymond E Feist and it is the first book of his new series but all his books are connected. He is a real good writer - for anyone into that type of genre.

Has anyone read the Narnia series?

my g/f has read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, she loved it. I borrowed it off her but I won't be reading it for awhile yet.

I am reading Cloak of Deception - it is a Star Wars book which is based just before Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Also started writing a new attempt at a novel.

Glad to see someone mention Clancy's Without Remorse, without a doubt one of my favorite books. And Gunny, nothing nerdy about reading 3 books, we read a lot in my house. Mrs. Madaboutmcnair probably reads 15-20 books a month. I'm not that strong, I read a lot but not on that level.

We love the Prey series by John Sandford, it's a cop mystery but very smart and violent too. There are probably a dozen of them, the first one is Rules of Prey. They are all great.

I also like the Dark Tower Series from King, Clancy's Jack Ryan stuff, and Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books (seems like City of Bones, Concrete Blonde, some others) those are cop books too. Based in LA Bosch is a homicide cop, he's pretty disfunctional but he's great at his job, just a real good charecter. I love the Vampire Chronicles (Anne Rice), her Lestat is just wonderful.
I'm about to start a new Michael Connelly book but I forgot the name of it.
If you're into classics, or WWII stuff, From here to Eternity (Author's last name is Jones) is fantastic, it's pretty old they mad a black and white movie out of it that stars a yound Frank Sinatra.

And it's about to become a movie.

For what it's worth, all the Clancy books have been turned into good movie adaptations. They don't follow the books all the time, and they aren't quite as good as the books, but the movies have still all been good.

The classics gentleman...

I'm reading Goethe's faust 1 & 2 for the second time and a book of plays by a swedish writer august strindberg.

I always love reading thoreau and am still trying to fiqure out whitman's leaves of grass.

One of the better novels in the last 20 years is amy tan's "the joy luck club."

For some fun reading try "A year in provence".

Ayn rand's the fountainhead is truly a great novel and for something controversial and mind stimulating read her essay book called "the virtue of selfishness."

For great non fiction i would encourage anyone to read tony robbins "awaken the giant within" and a book called "maximum achievement" by a writer named tracy.

Kami, please don't tell me for a second you actually identify with the bigger thomas character in native son.

Gunny I think it means that we're seeing more classes of people based on how they can cope with the evolving information age. Er something like that

Yeah - that's the gist. You're seeing more segregation in society along lines of intelligence due to how economy/society is evolving. Add in that IQ is a hereditary trait, and you get "the smart get smarter, the not so smart, well... are increasingly out of luck" when all the good paying jobs are dependent on intelligent. It's a big change from only a couple generations ago.

I have been a fan of Clive Cussler's for a long time. It is action adventure combined with history and some serious imagination.I am a serious book nerd. Love the Harry Potter books. I am also a devoted reader of English Chic Lit. I love Jemima J, bookends, Shopaholic, etc. So for you guys out there who are sick of your g/f and wives complaining about nothing good to read, I seriously recommend the above books.:thumb:

Very subjective statement. Apart from HftRO I thought all the movies based on TC's books were quite lackluster. And the only reason I think different about HftRO is that I saw the movie before I read the book.

Personally I find that Dan Browns' books start out like thunder and lightning, but about halfway through it's just straight down hill, sadly.

Must admit I don't get to read many new novels lately, for some reason it's always non-fiction books that end up on my desk for reading.

Favourite book of all times is probably Clavell's Noble House. I re-read that one every few years.

Speaking of books turned into movies, I saw that Beowulf is going to become a movie....but I think it'll be computer animated. There were some big name actors involved.

Been a long time since I read it, but I remember liking it and hopefully the movie will be good too. I wonder how many hated this book mostly because they had to read it in HS?
