Sade Adu - Is It A Crime?

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MSuB53wU7d4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MSuB53wU7d4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

In the mid-eighties I had a chance to see Sade live. I wasn't particularly a fan, but she was playing an outdoor gig at Canada's Wonderland (Canada's largest amusement park).... we were already going to the park for the 'coasters so we thought we'd check her out in what is an excellent venue (natural ampitheatre type deal). When she walked out on stage in a slinky dress and no shoes I was blown away by how this huge voice could come out of such a petite woman. The song above was the highlight of that particualr show... and I'm still a little shocked to say it was one of the most "magical" moments I've seen on stage (and from I've seen some great, great gigs). It's a fine line between light, jazzy R&B and muzak and I've always found that Sade danced that line beautifully... although I can see how she could be dismissed as the latter.

Oh, and the fact that she's uber-hot certainly doesn't hurt.

Don't even think that qualifies as "muzak". Not sure what it is, but it puts into mind the old PT Barnum quote: "There's a sucker born every minute."

edit: PS: I remember the first time I saw a Milli Vanilli video... I literally laughed out loud, I swear I thought it was some sort of R&B version of Spinal Tap.

How right you were... except the guys from Tap at least played their own instruments. :ha:

The thing that shocked me is that people were shocked. It couldn't have been more readily apparent that these two were the worst of posers. I mean they can't even follow the beat of "their own" music :ha:

I stumbled across it when searching for songs from 1989 and had to post it. Sorry.

Here's some real music. Homesick day today, so a few songs from my favorite Aussie Band.

Another lazy Firday at the office brings on a bout of homesickness.

Here's a few from Cold Chisel (great Aussie Pub rock band of the late 70's/early 80's).

Reminiscing about sitting in a Brisbane Pub on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon downing a few tubes and listening to some great Aussie rock.

Also stumbled on this most classic Aussie song being covered by Eddie Vedder and the original singer Mark Seymour (of Hunters and Collectors)
