Fisher was among the first to have the team go through training camp in their hometown. Years later, many more do this. I think there is something else Fisher could do which would have even more impact -- start out with smaller roster numbers.

I understand why they have 75+ guys in camp. You need fresh bodies in the rotation and there is sometimes a gem in camp the emerges.

But in the case of the Titans, who have a lot of young talent, I would think you could reduce the numbers of guys in the rotation so your own players get more coaching. They may not need to get more reps but coaches would have more time between those reps to talk to a player about technique.

Maybe coaches want the camp casualties in there to push the vets. But each year when I go to camp, I see a lot of time spent coaching up guys they know will never make the roster.

Now that is a very interesting idea.......I second it.

We have had a large part of our supposed starting roster that's been made up of projects. As you say, adding further URFA who are not likely to make the team spreads the coaching staff thinner.Heck even our kicker has been coached up from scatch.

Few teams have been to the bottom of the talent barrell as we have recently.Relying solely on the draft for 3 seasons as we all know has yet to pan out but it wasn't like we had a choice.

Our 03' DL draft has hurt us the most with its slow development.I know they've been hit by injuries but are they good enough now to be playing only a quarter or a half in pre-season games.

As we saw this week with the two DE pickups you can always find someone to make up the numbers when need.

I think our young players be further along than they are now under your idea TJ.

The numbers are in there mainly to keep guys fresh, not to mention prevent depletion via injury like the DLine right now. If they keep fewer players, they will need to forgoe 2-a-days (which may also not be a bad idea).

You could also have more position coaches, instead of less players. There are an awful lot of good position coaches out there, has nothing to do with gameplaning, x and o´s, etc. just technique, and once you get everyone on the same page, you can teach technique almost equally to everyone.

It wouldn´t hurt to have more position coaching for tackling... for example.

With more position coaching, you can evaluate better the players, also.

Maybe two a days are not that bad, even three are possible, if they keep exercisiíng under 1 h of "body movement". More than 45 minutes and you are wasting energy needed to recover for next practice, and exercising resistance instead of explosive power.
Ive done also two a days, as player, (i guess everyone) and if you keep em short with enough rest, they are pretty good for a week or two to keep you focus on your technique and playbook learning.
Wouldn´t hurt them do video tape on their technique, so they can watch how the D sucks at tackling. Maybe they do.

Yes but having more players leads to more competition, and the best players fighting for a starting position will emerge. You make a good point, but I disagree, you have to push players to their limits, and you do that buy creating more compeition, ie thats why there are so many players in training camp.
