Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

It's horror/exploitation time in Tennessee! I watched I spit on your grave (original), suspiria, and madman last night. Ahhhhh, feels good to have horror thrown in my face again...gotta love October. Let's revive the old horror thread, eh? Eh?

To add to OneTon's Horror discussion, I've started the October Universal Horror bonanza. Love the this time of year!
As far as stuff I haven't seen before and recommend - I'm going with Mutants, which is a French Zflick, with a legit creepy vibe. Not great, but decent..

50/50

Another home run for Joseph Gordon Levit. There are definitely some lighthearted moments, but 50/50 is a lot more drama filled than the trailers would lead you to believe. Think Funny People, except good.

I'm starting my October horror-watching fest with Frank Henelotter, one of the best independent horror crafters in the business.

Basketcase 1 & 2 & 3, Brain Damage, and Frankenhooker = all very, very good flicks.

Watched "Drive" the other day.

If you love those "art house" movies, this is a must watch for you. If you hate those kind of movies, then stay away from this one as "nothing is happening" will be the first hour to you.

The casting was perfect, this is a character study, driven film and not in the traditional way. There is hardly any dialogue in the first hour and the director is able draw you in while having the two lead roles (Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan) just stare at each other without speaking (literally). Gosling gives a strong performance as well as Mulligan, and casting TV drama heavy hitters, Bryan Cranston and Christina Hendricks as small roles worked as great complements.

The last 30 minutes does get pretty violent and almost has a Tarantino vibe, the way the tension slowly builds up before each kill, and the way each kill is crafted with depth and substance.

There is a elevator scene that showed off some mad directing skills, the cinematography was fantastic as well as the soundtrack, and the combination of the two gives a polarizing effect. I can promise you, after the movie ends, you'll find yourself youtubing the songs from the movie.

127 Hours -

Great movie. I suppose it was hard to mess this one up, but Franko was perfect and the movie kept my teeth clinched all the way through. The entire attitude of Aaron Ralston (true to the man or not?) was awesome. Some actual laugh out loud lines in a painful moment.
I wondered how it'd play out due to the dilemma happening before the title is even displayed... but it remained interesting all the way through. Perfect job of going through the different thought processes we all kind of know we'd experience in that situation. Nice score/soundtrack also.
Reminded me of Into the Wild. Just as good a performance, and Hirsch was great in that one.

8/10. As good as expected, which rarely happens.
Just finished watching this one. Couldn't agree more with Deuce's assessment.

It's a tough task to keep an audience engaged while having 95% of the camera time on one actor and Franco did a great job. I really enjoyed the delusional back and forth between him and camcorder.

Yes! So glad more people are talking about this film. I absolutely loved Drive. The surprise of the year, for me.

Watched "Everything Must Go" today, the one with Will Ferrel. Thought it was great, one word summary of how I felt after: moved. The ending was really well done. The best part for me was when he went to see a former high school classmate.. you could really feel his struggle at that point. While watching it I felt some solace about my own issues and felt that they are manageable.. so that in itself was worth the watch.

Red State

'Twas badazz. Religious people are scarier than anything in a horror movie.

Really liked this though. All the actors were so well casted and came off as "real" as I've seen throughout a movie in a while. So whoever directed (too lazy), I'm giving credit there.

"I don't let no man inside me less he has had 3 beers!"

That movie had me glued to the screen. Pretty sure they based that preacher off a guy I know up in Joelton.

Ending was pro. hahaha

Adam Sandler is dead to me too. How could he go from being so good to so awful? The last good Sandler move had to be 10 years ago unless you include the longest yard which I liked.

Also I just watched Red State last night..really good movie. People kept dying when you didn't really expect it lol.
