Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

It's not only in movies, ESPN had a preseason top 25 the other day from some guy with less than 100 followers on twitter.
And that's why the only things worth reading on ESPN.com are "insider" articles that need a subscription. And even those are pretty lackluster.

I'm actually amazed by the Insider concept. What other sports outlet has something like that?

Social media based "news" is simply data that doesn't cost them anything to acquire.
And Insider appeases the generation that only knows that they always got their sports from ESPN and they simply aren't comfortable with other sources.

ESPN Insider is about as dumb as it gets

years back my buddy had a subscription, so I had access, literally not one thing in there was exclusive to ESPN, just the same regurgitated info with a fancy spin on it..

Rotoworld costs nothing and is better

I'm genuinely interested to see how it does opening week. The opening lineup is weak, but it won't have the benefit of a holiday weekend.
I don't think it'll do crazy business opening weekend. Still should turn a very nice profit though once all revenue is considered.

I think anything less than $35 million on opening weekend would be a disappointment. Profit usually halves every week after opening weekend. It will probably need to surpass $300 million once advertising is accounted for.

This is why people get pissed when they fuck with the source material.

George Takei Reacts to Gay Sulu News: "I Think It's Really Unfortunate" - Hollywood Reporter

The idea came from Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the new films and penned the Beyond screenplay, and director Justin Lin, both of whom wanted to pay homage to Takei's legacy as both a sci-fi icon and beloved LGBT activist.

And so a scene was written into the new film, very matter-of-fact, in which Sulu is pictured with a male spouse raising their infant child. Pegg and Lin assumed, reasonably, that Takei would be overjoyed at the development — a manifestation of that conversation with Roddenberry in his swimming pool so many years ago.

Except Takei wasn't overjoyed. He had never asked for Sulu to be gay. In fact, he'd much prefer that he stay straight. "I’m delighted that there’s a gay character," he tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate."

How often does this happen?

Sony has a "review embargo" on Ghostbusters that was to end this morning. Supposedly the embargo was extended another day.

Interesting. I'm awaiting my favorite reviewer to check it out... just no idea when that'll be.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 did over 700 mil... and was considered a failure by Sony. Hmm, maybe not that harsh, but it was deemed a disappointment.

Besides, I don't care about opening weekend numbers. I care about overall... primarily how it does from week 1 to week 2, possibly 3.

A drop tends to identify a movie as bad more than how it starts - to me, anyway.

A drop is inevitable and expected. Opening weekend is vital to a movie's success, that's why there are review embargoes to keep reviews from coming out the week prior to the release.

Usually a movie drops like 30%+ from week one to week two, but Ghostbusters is going up against Star Trek 3's opening for GB's week 2. It could get ugly...

Supposedly Sony is fearing opening against "Secret Life of Pets".

You don't open against a kid's movies... uh oh.

It happens when a studio knows the movie is going to suck. They try to prevent word of mouth from spreading.
