SUMMARY: DT Robaire Smith's deal is for one-year with a base salary of $585,000 and includes a $415,000 signing bonus. According to Smith's agent, the 49ers, Jaguars and Browns were among teams also interested. Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said Smith would be put into the rotation immediately. "He'll line up immediately and he'll play this week," Fisher said. "He won't have any difficulty picking things back up. He'll help our run defense as well as provide some much needed inside push." Smith had 102 tackles and two sacks last season, and he has 202 tackles over the past two seasons. But his most effective pass-rushing days were as a Titan, when he had 11.5 sacks in four seasons.

Love it, he's affordable. If he plays well he can get another big payday, and this time if we want to keep him we will be able to.
I can't say how much better this makes me feel. I know it's just one move, but it's the right one. I feel like we have a chance of a winning season now.

Wonder if Houston offered to restructure his deal?

And look at how much we are paying someone like Piller. Smith would be worth that much to Houston when you look at other deals.

The Texans are high on last years 1st rounder Travis Johnson & Kubiak liked him over Smith after camp & pre season. Smith was viewed as having to big a cap hit for a backup even though he would have seen a lot of work in rotation.

IMO a lot of it is down to Kubiak wanting to put his own stamp on the team with younger & faster guys rather than it being a cap issue.

The work ethic stuff has followed him for his whole career. I'm not worried about it at all. We already saw what happens when you add a little Washburn to Smith. :brow: :brow: :brow:
