Several anylists have critisized The Titan's pick of Young, they pointed out several problems with Young's Dropback, Release, and Pocket presence, What do you think?

These were the same guys who said he was so great after the Rose Bowl. Some of the nay-sayers said the same things about a young guy from Alcorn State, and that turned out alright...

do a search on Vince Young here in the forums

you will find page upon page of comments and opinion

it's no secret that Vince played in a shotgun / option offense
and that he has a weird throwing motion

SO WHAT ?!?!?

I just read where Chow and Fish are already scripting plays specifically for hi freakish abilites - I can't wait until Games 3&4 of the pre-season to see what he's all about at this level

I agree that he's a project and a risk. I said as much over the last few months. But he also has easily the highest upside of any player in the draft. So I'll be an optimist...

Pffft...he only won the Rose Bowl all by himself. How is he not ready? huh? Utter stupidity. I don't even think you have to bring him along slowly. He's too good. Where we are going, we won't have to read defenses.

Are you joking PhiSlamma? I will be shocked if he plays after sitting just one year. The guy has a huge learning curve going from one read offensive system to the NFL. He is a total project, and one I hope will pan out. He does have a huge upside and I think he is worth the risk. I would look for him to follow the same pattern that Mcnair followed. Two years on the bench learning and then the job will be his. He will be brought along very slowly.

McNair was considered a huge project too, and he didn't have the upside Young had IMO, which is scary to me. Young will take probably 2 years to take command of the starting spot I think, but it will be worth the wait.

I can't see him sitting for 2 years. Maybe 1. You can't give a guy $20M up front and not have him play for 2 years.

Anyway, with Volek likely starting, it's just a matter of time before Young has to come in and replace Billy after another injury...

I was listening to ESPN today... and the thing that got me was them saying he can't read defenses... He ran a one read offense?...Simply lazy journalism, either they didn't watch film, or need their head examined..

If he ran a one read offense, Pete Caroll must not be the Defensive Co-ordinator he was hyped to be. tOSU obviously had a weak D, right? Why couldn't they sniff out this oversimplistic offense, that scored more than any other NCAA team this year... where Vince ended up on the bench an equivelant of like 2.5 games because of blow-outs.

go to www.jcdenton40.com, and judge for yourself. Vince made some great reads.

How long Young waits will be determined by whether or not we get Mcnair to stay. I don't think you can sit Young behind Volek for two years, but you can definitely sit him behind Mac for two.

I think he will sit, but not because he's not ready, it will be because McNair is the man. He should get a couple of games in this year when we are getting blown out. And a few starts next year. But like I said, I think he's ready to contribute now. Not like a superstar, but better than McNair. Still only getting a few wins because frankly, we aren't good. But we will never know, because mcnair will start anyway.

That's why you re-sign Mac, and trade Billy. :winker:

The sooner they get VY some playing time, the better.

was just reading Clayton's take .. that the coaches wanted Leinart and Bud wanted Young.. do you think that split's got some truth to it?
you've got to think McNair would like to come back for this..

My point exactly.

Besides, Mac was coming up under the all knowing and ever helpful Chris Chandler, (sarcastic ... Chris did not help Mac in any way shape or form)

In bringing Young up, I still think keeping Mac on the team is vital.

Tough calll at 3..

I didn't like any of these guys at 3 but it is strange to draft such a project that high. Kami has a point about mcnair but steve was a better passer at this stage than young with a normal over hand delivery.

Hodge, jaws and schlereth(sp.?) just took young apart saying that he had so many major adjustments to make. His throwing motion, going from a one read system to a 3+ read system, taking the snap from center which jaws thought was going to be a problem.

They ran a pass play clip in which three guys were in the pattern. The WR on the left was getting loose coverage. The WR on the right was getting bump. The TE was getting triple covered. Young looked at the TE, saw he was covered and then ran the ball. The point is that he didn't even look or try to recognize the bump coverage on the right in which his receiver was open. His only read was the TE.

To see that segment you wouldn't think young was as good a prospect as tavaris jackson.

Later they did run some clips of clemons and jackson. Clemons looked great making perfect reads and throws and jackson has an absolute gun. It did make me wonder.

They can spin things to make the picks they predicted look as good as they want them. If they were "experts", some team would pay them big bucks to scout players. I think all they Young Haters out there need to give him a chance. He is on our team, not going anywhere, so support him.
