Considering its been ten years since McNair was our starting QB, I wanted to take a look at how many QB's have started for the Titans/Oilers since McNair was drafted. All in all, 13 QB's have started since Steve was drafted in 1995 (other than Steve), for a total of 189 games. Steve played for this franchise for 10 years, and started 131 games. He had 38 starts under his belt before they made it to the Super Bowl. Starting with 2006, there have been 145 starts by 9 different QB's.

This is Mariota's second year, and he has 12 starts under his belt. As hungry as we are as fans to have a winning franchise again, it's important to realize that the last time we posted a real winning regular season record - 13-3 in 2008 - was when Kerry Collins became our starter after VY left the first game injured. At that time Collins, a fifth overall pick in 1995, was in his 13th season in the league. This franchise didn't become a mess overnight and it won't get fixed overnight either, but having a good QB is critical. We've whiffed on 2 high draft picks since 2006 (Young and Locker), and, shy of Collins brief success in 2008, have been either mediocre or bad. In this case bad is good, because it brought about the level of change that has the potential to fix things.

The way our successful teams have been built almost any QB could have fared well. Experience does mean something but some guys just get it and others dont.

You can already see a whole new level of confidence in Mariota's game this year.

Did any of the Titans successful years have an overpowering offense that carried a weak defense? NO. Let's pump the brakes on all the playoff talk. This defense still needs a lot of work.

Playoffs?

I dont see anyone saying playoffs
Not on this thread, no. But reading the "early division predictions" and a couple of the others, we have plenty of fans that think playoffs is not only a possibility in a bad division but the expectation because Murray and Henry were successful in preseason.

Your take on experience is good, but it's hard to compare every situation equally. Didn't Luck reach the post season in his first year? Brady won the Super Bowl early in his career. Elway only won at the end and with an effective running game.

Well when i look at our schedule I see 6-8 possible wins, come seasons end that could very well win the AFCS, but 8 wins is our absolute best we could dream of. This team hasn't won back to back games in 3 years, so I dont expect that to suddenly reverse, we still have some key pieces we could stand to improve on. LG, SS, ILB, CB, PR/KR....

But NEXT YEAR!!!!

We add a few more pieces like we did this year, next off season, and we are going to be a team to look at for once.

I have a similar outlook. I think next year, pending more offseason moves and the draft, this team should be able to compete with the best the AFC has to offer.

we had 40% roster turnover

we're a little ahead of things IMO

next year is our year
You think we are going to fix our defensive problems in one year? Even with high draft picks, these guys will be rookies, and have to learn....a lot. Even with FA you have to adjust to a new team, a new scheme, etc. Doesn't happen overnight, or even in a year. Takes time to build a dominate team. We are fixing the O now, but we have to wait and see if that even works. Preseason tells you very little. We really won't know what we have as a team until about 5 or 6 games in. Everyone should curb their enthusiasm, or at least keep it on an even keel. We have lots of work left to do. At least we seem to be FINALLY headed in the right direction.

If JR nails another draft and offseason, and keeps getting rid of the trash, next year will be really exciting. I see no reason why he won't. In a couple years the Titans should be in the regular talks to make a push.

This year, I just want to see a solid team that can finish some games.

It's really hard to assess based off preseason, last year the Eagles looked like they were unstoppable in the preseason but then they were terrible. I agree we need to wait a few games to determine but I like the direction, new attitude, identity and desire to win.

That CB situation though, oh boy. They look scary bad and I cringe at the though of them defending against long bombs.

You guys are killing me.... There's only one thing this team needs... ONE THING....

A Defense.

It won't be this year and it won't be next BUT 2018 is the year of the TITAN... look it up.... true story.

Sorry bored at work

I don't see playoffs this season...that being said...9 wins probably wins the afc south. I see us in the 7-8 win area. NEXT year after the lambs provide us with a top 3 pick we will load up on D and take our rightful place atop the AFC SOUTH.

I agree that 2018 is much more realistic, but pending the moves that happen, next year is not out of the question for a playoff push.

Wait, you nailed a draft, and had a good offseason? Lol

I guess the Eagles was better. I mean, Bradford is definitely worth $20M, Daniels too, plus giving up a bunch of picks for an average QB prospect that they reached for. Yeah you're right, they really killed it......
