I really like Bo Schobel, and have been mad all season that he is always inactive. He showed today that he can be good, with a sack and forced fumble, and dominated in the preseason. I dont think he has been given a chance to go out there and play.
(On his sack, he burned Khalif Barnes, the person that many people thought the titans should take instead of Roos...)

Does Bo Schobel deserve to go out and play every week?

he burned mike pearson, someone coming off of a two-ligament tear in his left knee.

Coming into the season, I really expected Schobel to shine this year, especially against the run. (I figured he and LaBoy would split time, with LaBoy used mostly as a situational pass rusher.)

However, Schobel been deactivated for several games, and when he did play, he was largely invisible. He'll need to step it up in a big way in training camp next year, or he could find himself unemployed.

Scobel's biggest problem?...KVB..

KVB took that starting left end job in camp and pushed out schobel. KVB played so well he didn't get many reps even when activated.

For whatever reason they only see him on the left side.

La boy played fairly well when healthy with 6 sacks but odom was a huge disappointment with just 18 tackles and 2 sacks. Considering that odom looked like deacon jones in the pre-season that was a major downer. Looking back maybe they should have deactivated odom for a couple of games in favor of schobel. Odom had significant playing time in every game and started half of them yet only managed those paltry numbers. In 10% as many reps schobel had a sack, 8 tackles and some hurries.

The 4 defensive lineman drafted in 2004 combined for fewer sacks than KVB alone. laboy-6, starks 3, odom-2, schobel-1. One of the reasons we sucked this year. We were healthy and deep in the d-line all year but still played poorly.

The d-line didn't play poorly this year. They are at least an average line. 31.5 sacks is one of the higher totals for a d-line in the league.

I think we all would have liked to have seen Bo some more. With KVB playing well, it really doesn't mean Bo is bad, maybe just that they could keep someone else up at another position that needs more help. He's shown some flashes, and if we don't pick a DE in the draft, I bet he's still here next year.

Bobo...

We were 22nd in rush defense and ypc rush defense. Hardly indicative of a dominant defensive line. Certainly they are not entirely to blame for that but that's not good. Take KVB out of the equation and how did we do? Reese's 2004 draft picks certainly didn't hold their own in their 2nd season when they should have got it done. All 4 of those guys got decent plaing time in 2004 and should have done more.

With those guys entering their third season there will be no excuses and likely that one of those ends will be playing somewhere else in 2006 because i have a feeling we draft another end.

My response about the d-line wasn't just about the young guys. It was about the whole with KVB since you said the line played poorly. Pressure on the QB matters, right?

Who said the d-line was dominant? I said they were at least average.

We were almost last in long runs given up, which certainly hurt the average ypc. We were in the middle of the pack for rush TD's allowed and rushing FD's. The LB's and S's played below average and were more of a problem in the run game than the d-line.

See, you fail to mention Odom's highs. Like, a forced fumble, two fumbles recovered and two TD's and "some hurries". You also fail to mention that the guy had a lot go on in his life at the start of the preseason. Like, suffering from Sleep Apnea and having his condition corrected then having his sister die from the same ailment months later. IMO, Starks, LaBoy, and Odom are way ahead of Schobel at this point. And frankly would be shocked to see him in a Titans uniform next season.

You are not mistaken. Starks had a sophomore slump, but the rest showed improvement, right? Big Al was great...when he was in there.

lbs and safeties

if the lbs and safeties covered a little better and weren't always in trailing position they might have had more.

Schobel is not very strong on the RE side (one oleg is stronger than the other or something) and Odom is a capable backup on the LE side. Thus, Schobel was basically the 4th DE. As Tide said he didn't play because KVB was hard to get off the field and a 4th DE is going to be deactivated alot because they don't contribute on STs.
