I really like what I've seen from this kid...seems very mature in interviews...has bloodlines in the NFL with his Dad and brother both playing in the league...although he didn't play against top in talent being at NDSU in the fcs when he went to the senior bowl he held his own very well.

He crushed the combine...6'4" 208lbs...4.36 in the 40yd, 38.5" vertical and over 11' broad jump

At NDSU he contributed in a bunch of different ways...he returned KO, lined up outside and in the slot as WR, lined up in the backfield as a RB or H back on certain plays. He is explosive with the ball in his hands on the jet sweep. His speed shows up on the field as he makes defenders look like they are taking bad angles to tackle him.

I bet the 49ers would love to pair him back up with Trey Lance.

I really think that with the dramatic salary increase that has hit the WR market this off season that WRs will fly off the draft board...so even though the WR position is one of the deepest in the draft I could easily see 15-18 of them being off the board by our 3rd rnd pick.

I would not be upset if we took him in the 1st. Elite physical tools, good bloodlines, mature, and is a very versatile player who can be deployed in a Deebo Samuel type fashion

Big fan of Watson. I agree he’ll be long gone by our third round pick but could be available early in the 2nd if we trade back.

I disagree here. To me this guy is Justin Hunter. All the talent in the world, but the play on the field doesn't reflect how good he should be. Watson didn't even break the 1,000 yard mark in any of his 4 seasons when playing in the FCS, and we're going to draft him in the 1st round? Is he suddenly going to put up 1,000 yards in the NFL when he couldn't in FCS?

I know you need to evaluate prospects on a player by player basis, but taking a more broad approach here - who was the last player from North Dakota State that was drafted who was any good? If you look at the list, it's full of players who were disappointments.

I am all for drafting a WR in the 1st round and totally on that bandwagon, but not if it is Watson. I'm not against drafting him, but not early and not in the first two rounds.

From what I've read he's the 11th ranked WR ..that's not 1st round material

He had 43 receptions while all the other WRs combined had 58....NDSU only threw the ball 250 times.....compared to ohio State who threw it 500 times...sure I would love to have seen him catch 80 balls for 1250 yds, but he made the most of his 43 receptions avg. over 18 yds a catch...his 1st 2 yrs he avg over 20 yds a catch

On Walter Football he is the 6th best WR and Draft Tek the 7th best WR....I think most sites have a concensus top WR group of London, Wilson, Olave, Williams, and Burks....after that you usually see Watson, Skyy Moore, Pickens, Dotson, Metchie, Tolbert as the next set

You are spot on with looking at production in conjunction with athletic traits. Whenever JR varies from that formula we don’t have have as much success. Production must be in the final analysis.

I love Watson but get the production concerns. If you’re ok with a smaller guy… what would you say about a guy who:
Averaged 1,100 yards and 11TDs over his last two college seasons and runs a 4.3 and can be drafted in the 3rd round?

I give you… Calvin Austin

However, what you have to understand with Watson, is that he made the most of his limited opportunities. Dude is a beast and if he had been on a high passing volume offense, he would likely be a top 15 pick.

no guarantee that Austin is available in the late 3rd where we pick.

The most conservative move is to take best available OL…you know you could get a plug and play guy.

But my guess is that you are much more likely to get an OG in the 3rd that can give you instant help than you will be able to get a WR who has the skills to be an instant contributor.
