All, Is Damien Nash a goner?

I don't think he's played all year, and even late in the year and with Henry hurt, Jarrett Payton is still getting the nod for goal line carries. Has anyone heard anything positive about Nash's development?

He's really the only draft pick that we haven't heard something positive out of this year

thanks in advance

He'll compete for a job in training camp next year. Tough to tell what the backfield will look like by then between Henry's contract and the draft.

Did Nash dress yesterday? He wasnt on the inactive list, but I dont remember seeing him on the sidelines.

I noticed Marcus Randall was dressed yesterday too.

I had forgotten about Randall. Any word on how he's looked in practice ?

Bust? I bet Randall could perform as well as our current safetys.
Besides, how can a guy be a bust when he was a UDFA who showed enough promise to make it to the practice squad. Pretty good considering he is getting paid a weekly check to play football and at a position he didn't play in college.

I assume he was calling Nash a bust. But let's be honest, 5th round picks just shouldn't be considered busts.

As for his chances, he never really had an opportunity this year. Between injuries and off the field personal issues, he missed a lot of training camp. We'll see what he can do next August.

I think of Nash as having an opportunity similar to Mike Green, who went from inactive/outcast (so to speak) as a rookie the coaches didn't trust (and who just plain struggled to adjust to the demands of the NFL) to one of these guys who did everything that was asked of him and found a way to contribute. But I think Nash has more upside than Green if he does take that "second year leap."

I figure the coaches must see something in him. Every time we sign a new Receiver or bring someone else up from the practice squad I expect Nash to be placed on the Practice Squad or cut altogether, but he remains on the 53-man roster.

I gather then, that the coaches don't want to leave him unprotected because they see something in him.

I'd like to see them give him some spot duty towards the end of the season.

I think this may be influenced by the emergence of Samkon Gado. He was on the Chiefs PS, and then wham - he's got more stock atm that Willie Parker ever had, and rightly so.

On his TV show tonight, Fisher said he wasn't ready to give Nash any carries yet. Not exactly a vote of confidence.

He wasn't ready to give Jarrett Payton or Mike Green much playing time in their first years here, either. Not exactly proof Nash is done for Fisher to say that.

Obviously, Nash has to prove he's learned something when they go through the offseason, or maybe he'll have to prove he can learn over in Europe, but he is likely to get another opportunity to prove it in training camp/preseason next year.

Well Cedric Houston, the guy I wanted over Nash had a solid game playing as a rookie for the Jets (84 yards on 15 carries). Houston has 158 yards on 43 carries the last two games and had 4 catches for 40 yards last game.
Too bad we keep drafting guys that are not "ready" to play. IMO if a guy has to go over to Europe to prove himself he was not any better than an UDFA to begin with. At this stage of the season Nash should be ready.

What gets me is that no one appears to say anything about the guy. Coaches rarely comment. The media hasn't said squat in ages. Why is he not playing? Is he not learning plays? Is he fumbling in practice? Is he injured? Is he even improving?

It reminds me of a movie I watched once where they kept a kid locked up in the basement. Neighbors suspected he was there but no one ever saw him.

I wish I woulda got the chance to ask Blake Beddingfield about that in the TC chat after the draft. I don't think anyone mentioned it. I think Bongo said some teams were scared of Houston's medical condition (hyperthyrodism?).

Nash is a better raw runner than Payton, but that at this point Payton is a better football player. Apparently Nash has had problems learning blocking schemes and I get the impression that he has been a slacker in practice.
