SUMMARY: Negotiations between the top draft picks and the teams who drafted them has moved slowly this year due, in part, to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Though the rookie pool has increased 5%, contracts can only be prorated over five years for most first-rounders this season instead of six the previous seasons. Those changes could cause contracts to contain less signing bonus money up front, money that will have to be recouped elsewhere in the deal. "Because of that, the signing bonuses are going to be smaller, and you’re having to look at roster bonuses, options and incentives to make that up and to get a fair deal based on last year’s contracts," Agent Bus Cook said. "It’s the structure that has changed. It’s affecting everybody across the board, the players, the clubs and the agents. It’s really going to affect the high first-round picks."

They got their cost of living increases lol. And somehow the nfl teams will find a way to recoup it with a lower signing bonus. Something just sounds wrong about that. The Players sound like they are making wild projections. Either that, or the NFL owners are really cheap *** *******s.

Jeff I know this is off subject but wasnt sure where else to put it. New Orleans is releasing Dwight Smith who started started and was probably their best defensive player last year. He plays safety but can play corner and nickel. This might be a great place to spend some of the 9 mil cap space and add depth in the secondary. Any chance we might go after him, he is a winner and shouidnt be to expensive. Again sorry about being off subject guys.

with a year less on the initial contract signing bonuses should be lower. 5 years instead of 6 is 16% drop take in about 3% cola and a signing bonus drop of about 13% would seem reasonable.

But agents are not known as reasonable people.
