Not just because RG3 is a bust, and Mariota would likely be an upgrade ... but also because it would block the Eagles (a division rival) from getting the QB they so desperately want.

Also, they should do it just because I like the idea of staying in the top 5 better than moving down to 20.

Also, it would be hilarious to see Chip Kelly's face when he goes to the RS. lol

Also, someone should just tweet out that the RS are seriously interested and see if it gains any steam ... seams like just about anything will at this point.

I think they'd be complete fools to do so. They'd need to put together a similar package as to what they did 3 years ago for RG3. And Mariota has just as many question marks. If Mariota doesn't pan out then they would've given up something like 6 1st round picks (+ others) for 2 bust QBs. I think they would get absolutely roasted by the media and more importantly their own fanbase if they were to pull the trigger on such a move.

.....Fools......Dan Snyder? Anything possible LOL.

That said, Chip Kelly may be the new Dan Snyder here....we will see I guess.

RG3's problems would make me hesitant to go big for Mariota. RG3 was a better prospect coming out and has tanked, that would make me hesitant to go to the well again.

Mariota is a similar prospect to Jake Locker in 2011 or Dereck Carr last year. He played in a perfect system with great players all around him. Mariota had a primo running game.

I think Mariota is a much better prospect than Jake Locker. Just look at his completion percentage compared to Locker. He is far more accurate. And he is pretty close to RG3 in speed and running ability. I would say he is much closer to an RG3 type prospect than a Jake Locker type prospect. And I think this is evidenced in the demand for him at #2. Jake went at 8 and most think that was a stretch. And no one was knocking on our door to trade up for him.

Now this would be a move that would surprise the hell out of me.

I actually see them doing the opposite and sticking with RG3 while also trading back to gain picks. They hurt themselves by trading away 4 starters for the 2nd pick in 2012, theyre still rebuilding because of it.

I also still like RG3, he's not as bad as advertised.

Rg3 got f'd by shanahan. He would have been good if not pressed into playing so soon after an injury. It's been downhill since then.

I think Mariota is a MUCH better prospect than Locker coming out.

The knocks on Locker were health, accuracy, and lack of wins. We hoped that he could have a change of fortune in the health department, and we hoped that with some NFL coaching we could help is accuracy. We convinced ourselves that the lack of wins was due to the talent around him. Unfortunately Locker was who he was and nothing changed. He remained injury prone, inaccurate and didn't win us many games ... basically everything we saw in college, he took with him to the NFL.

The only knock on Mariota is that he is a system QB. Winning has never been a problem with him. He hasn't been injured, and his accuracy is much better than Locker's was. Yet we make all kinds of excuses against him much like we did for Locker.

We say his accuracy is only good because he threw to open guys, or he only won because of his system, etc.

With Locker we found ways to dismiss his KNOWN flaws ... with Mariota, we are just trying to find flaws that we don't know exist. This is a huge mistake IMO when trying to evaluate guys.

Not only what you said but also look how much more Mariota has done than Locker while in college.. Locker had every desirable measureable, but production wasn't the same as Mariota's, not even similar actually. Mariota is a QB, Locker was a RB turned into a QB, bit of a difference..

This is NOT a move I expect to happen ... I made this thread as more of a joke. I just don't want to drop too far down, and I think it would be funny to see Mariota go to Chip's division rival.

Woulda coulda shoulda ... sure he could've been a great player if given the right situation (I actually said when he was drafted that I felt bad for him. I knew going to the RS would F up his career somehow). But he already ruined 1 relationship with a coach, and seemed to be heading down the same path again with Gruden. At this point, I don't see much of anything changing in RG3. Maybe a fresh start would do him some good.

How is Mariota a similar prospect to Locker? Mariota ran a spread system, Locker ran a pro style. Mariota is very accurate and Locker was not. Locker got injured a lot and Mariota didn't. And what good talent did Locker have around him?
