He didnt have that great a year in 2005. And maybe he heard from his agent there wasnt going to be a whole lot of market for him. Especially with the uncertainty regarding free agency.
They are saying on 106.7 that Volek was not restructured, that he will remain under his current contract which keeps him here 2 more years.
Also, McNair was not restructured, they just paid his 1 million dollars instead of giving him the 50 mill bonus extension, and keeping him under contract. It just gives them 2 more months to restructure, or cut him. He currently will count 23 mill against the cap, and would count 13 mill if cut.

We still haven't gotten any official definitions of what they did. Both had their option bonuses declined. We don't know what else.
Simon couldn't have done a straight restructure afterwards because his deal has just 1 year left now. He probably had to either take a paycut or signed a new deal.
Volek has 2 years left now, but I can't see him having taken a straight paycut. He could have renegotiated to save a few hundred thou.

They gave Lamont Thompson his bonus. Why, oh why, did they do that???

Biding his time in as a backup in the AFL until some brilliant GM recognized his brilliant athleticism!

Well, he did have a DUI a few years ago, so it's possible... :drink:
Declining his option wouldn't. If they renegotiated his contract it would make a trade more expensive, but it doesn't sound like they renegotiated.
We declined an option on Billy Volek, which means he is still a Titan for 2006 and 2007. We declined an option on Peter Sirmon, which means he is still a Titan for 2006.
No renegotiation, just a plain and clear DECLINED! on their contracts.

Exactly. By not paying the additional option money they simply didn't opt to add the extra years to the existing contract. They did elect to give Roos the option so he gets another year added.
