I'm not a UT fan so haven't watched him throughout his career. I was searching stats on punt and KO returners....didn't know that Velus was 2nd in the nation in punt returns and also averaged over 27yds per KO return. Watching his highlights he certainly seems to be dangerous with the ball in his hands...breaks quite a few tackles.
Thoughts on him???

UT fan here - I like Velus but not as much as some. Always seemed he should be better than he was with how athletic he is. He's more of a WR4 IMO and if we draft a WR in the first 3 or 4 rounds, he needs to be a solid #3. There are WRs in the 3rd round range I like a lot more than him, and I'm a huge UT homer.
He is a very nice athlete, but he is a little old for a NFL prospect. But he could certainly be useful on ST and maybe as the 4th/5th WR on the roster.
His YAC is one of his intriguing qualities....mentions us possibly in the 3rd round

He's up there with Burks and Williams

How much of that is that he ran a bunch of slip screens or go routes that tend to lead towards YAC.... versus a bunch of out routes or comebacksHis YAC is one of his intriguing qualities....mentions us possibly in the 3rd round

You will have to ask No Flag Film...I don't have that dataHow much of that is that he ran a bunch of slip screens or go routes that tend to lead towards YAC.... versus a bunch of out routes or comebacks
Same is true for Burks though. Lots of gadget plays that tend towards YAC.How much of that is that he ran a bunch of slip screens or go routes that tend to lead towards YAC.... versus a bunch of out routes or comebacks
He is listed as the 15th best WR in the draft according to the great blue north. His 4.31 40 time will certainly help him and he has good size built like a RB but hybrid tool kit type guys do not always work out well in the NFL.
From a positive view you would compare him to Christian Kirk who has had a pretty good career and from a negative perspective you might argue he is a backup special teams guy.
Worth looking at in the third rd where we are picking.

Note that there is a chance we take a WR in rd one. I know Robby likes to target a need player in rd 1 but the way this draft is going to go there will likely be a couple of top WR prospects still there when we pick. Williams-London-Wilson-Olave.
Those guys might be hard to pass up. If we do take a WR in rd 1 obviously we will not be looking at Jones in rd 3 or 4.
