SUMMARY: On news of the signing of Kerry Collins yesterday, Billy Volek claimed the starting QB job remained his. "I think it's mine to lose," Volek said. " … I feel comfortable with this and am going to just go out there and keep doing what I can do." As the starter of three preseason games, Volek has completed 24 of 38 passes for 266 yards, no touchdowns, an interception and a 72.9 passer rating. Volek has a no-trade clause in his contract, but he could waive it. There were indications Monday evening that Volek already had requested a trade and was scheduled to meet with his agent Drew Rosenhaus. Volek continues to focus on the season opener on September 10. "I still think I have a great opportunity in front of me and I'm going to continue to help Vince out and do all the right things that I can do for this organization," Volek said.

I just read this at the tennessean site. I think this is some crap. Im really pissed at Volek. If your not a Titan Volek get lost. Does he think he earned his starting spot? He has done good in a few real games in the past. And we wont even look at preseason. This is a football team and team that needs to get good quick. I think the Titans did the right think by bringing in Collins. We need a line more but this is a real test for Volek and it looks like he failed the test. Does he not think he has to compeat for his spot? What a sore looser. Wa wa wa, They brought is some old guy, I want to play for another team. See, I think Im more upset because they dont want him to go. HE WANTS TO GO, I dont like that.....

I am happy he feels this way. If he rolled over and just took it, I'd question whether he has what it takes to lead this team.

I hope he goes out and lights it up tomorrow.

Volek might not get many if any reps tommorow. He knows he is done in TN. The best thing for him would be to get released and then take his pick of teams.

Why would he be done here? What's the evidence that says collins is our starter? I think Billy can beat him out. Give him a full game, Collins won't be ready in time for the Jets, and Billy will hold it.

Of course Volek wants to good this season, to impress the other teams, he already said it. He knows he is not future QB here, Vince Young. But Volek will not be a titan after this season I believe.

how many people think Fisher and Chow sabotaged Volek's playing this preseason. Chow knows BV likes to throw the long ball but yet they did very little of that. Chow is the dink and dunk stuff just like last yr. We will hear the same thing "we were one block away" or one short catch and run away" from breaking it.
What if they played to Volek's strength this season and he looked great. Were they afraid that might mess up their plans for VY.
To me it would have been in the Titans best interest to let BV lite it up then trade him when he was hot.
I think KC know he is here for one yr and then steps back behind VY. BV didn't want to do that and the Titans knew it so they set him up to fail.

i've said it once in another thread and saw someone else mentioned it as well...

volek for donnie edwards...

heck, i'd do volek and sirmon for donnie edwards...

bullock, thornton and edwards would make a great and fast LB group...

I Agree.. Does Billy Volek think that though?

If this was the start of training camp I'm sure Volek would be in the thick of things trying to win the spot. Now even if Volek thought he was the better QB it doesn't matter. The coaches have made their decision. All this non-sense about Volek not competing is ridiculous. There is not going to be a competition. That is why Volek wants out. Collins won the competition based on Volek's play and Collin's resume.

good statement...

I think things would have gone much worse if Collins was here from the start of training camp...bringing him in now was probably the best thing to do, if he was going to be here eventually...

If the Titans are serious about trading Volek, they'd want to showcase him tomorrow. I was a bit shocked to read Volek may not even go. If I were him, I'd want to see a couple of big plays I'd made on SportCenter just to see if it would help bring out more teams willing to trade.

if volek breaks his arm in the final preseason game, it wuld be very hard to trade him. and given his injury history, it isnt all that hard to imagine.

I don't see how he'd have any value right now. Has he shown enough to be a more attractive option than some of the guys we'll see release this weekend?
