Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

Kickers kill souls, usually making or taking your cash. I couldn’t pull the trigger on any of these games. Curious on the spread heads up in NFC game. I haven’t laid a bet this year. Last win was Tits vs GB last year. Lions pull 3.5, my first bet of the season.
**Rant warning**

I read a thing a few years back from Skip Bayless saying kicking needs to be abolished in the NFL entirely. As much as I think Bayless is a total tool, I am now on board with it.

The NFL deems kickoffs dangerous so why not just give the ball to the team on the 25 and move on. I think the only reason it's still in the game are the extra commercials. I know Geiko commercials pay the bills but 20 commercial breaks (100 ads on average) per game is too much.

FGs were important when games were lower scoring. With all the rules which favor the offense now, I think teams should only get the option to punt or go for it. It would make for a much more exciting game, IMO. Ever see fans chanting "kick the FG" on 4th and 2 when in FG range?

Who is excited about made FGs except one which wins the game? And, even then, you know the players who spent 60 minutes sacrificing their bodies are saying as they hoist the kicker "this mofo gets all the credit?"

Extra points needs to be taking the snap at the 1 for 1 point, 3 for 2 and 5 for 3. The freakin' XFL/USFL or whatever they call themselves these days do it better.

TJ, I get it, and you make really great points, BUT how much of that rant was because you lost money last night lolz? Just humor me for a moment.

Sorry, Jeff, but this is dumb. Might as well just make it 7 on 7. Kicking is integral to football. Come up with your own sport. Haha!

Where did I say take the other players off the field? :giggle:

I wonder if they told those who wanted the forward pass to be legalized back in the day they should come up with their own sport? Can you imagine today's game without the forward pass?

Kickoffs and field goals are the worst part of the game. But I'm happy to listen to your reasons as to why you think kicking is "integral".

FGs are generally not exciting but they are a huge part of the game W or L.

those little points add up too. Rob Bironas is still in the books for 8 (3 TD+ the 2pt con) worth. The fact that Jeff fisher uses that game for whack off material is irrelevant. I bet Andy Reid enjoyed it for a long time but has progressed past FG porn.

When an offense can’t finish the job, they “settle for a FG”, basically get something out of a drive when a TD seems unlikely for their efforts.
All or nothing all the time would also have it’s drawbacks.

It just so happens that as Titans fans, we should be the least onboard with removing FG or punts from the game.
That’s the team’s primary method of scoring and the MVP year after year.

Punting is fine. FGs/KOs are boring.

As one who has attended Titans games since '97, I admit the Titans brand of offensive football is often dull even when they win.

nothing quite like EG behind that 99-01 OL.... 68,000 knew exactly what was coming and exactly nothing at all D could do to stop it... was demoralizing. Teams were utterly defeated

You get I was being hyperbolic, but you are proposing something that would actually take players off the field and off of rosters. Why have special teams at all? Just do it like Pee Wee football and have designated yard markers that begin drives. I don’t know, the forward pass and special teams seem to be a bit different to me.

Remember, the punt and punt return units remain. I'm thinking the vast majority of those impacted by no longer being on KO/FG units still have a job... except the kicker, of course.

What about onside kick tries? How do you give a team an opportunity to immediately get the ball back?

XFL does it better already. You get one shot from the 25 to get 15 yards.
No team would ever NOT go onside against the titans. We all know the further away from the first down markers opponents get, the higher percentage of conversion they get.

I’d be curious how they handle penalties on those inside attempts.
The stupid secondary holding gets called a ton and is “auto first” for some reason.

Titans corners playing 13 yards off the LoS?
