That “officer” (or security guard) doesn’t deserve the paycheck they likely received.
Bet they didn’t even call it in afterwards.
Probably doesn't cost Walgreens much at all to replace the stolen crap... if an employee got injured stopping that guy, would probably cost more for them to "fix".

Then why have them?
But I would also think Walgreens didn’t hire them, they hired the security company that person works for which would be the responsible party for any injuries sustained.
If anything, that’s a documented evaluation and at least a write-up offense if not a fireable offense.

Never been in a Walgreens that had security.

It could be the location and they get an insurance discount - or it's a requirement for insurance - if they have "security".

Probably a minimum wage earning schmoe that isn't expected to do anything.

Probably a visual deterrent as well.

That’s probably accurate except maybe the visual deterrent, certainly in this case anyway.
