Who's got better numbers? I'm being even handed. I never hated on Lamont as the title of this thread seems to indicate. I only restated time after time that Lamont is not really good enough for this team at the level he has been playing at. I said he was not living up to his potential or my preseason expectations. I said he could do better than his crap in his pants performance on Sundays. Of course he got his money. He's cheap enough. Besides, who else has he got waiting in the wings to take his job? Thompson has been so mediocre.

Here...let's compare him to a safety that got cut...

# 30 Lance Schulters
G Total Tckl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def
16 /77 /57.0 /20 /2 /4 /78 /19.5 /37 /0 /2
# 28 Lamont Thompson
G Total Tckl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def
16 /80 /61.0 /19 /1 /1 /0 /0.0 /0 /0 /2

Like I've said in the past... after 2004 I was on the LT bandwagon...
but he sucked like a Vietnamese hooker all year.

Lamont, yo paycheck too booku! too booku!!!

I dont call him outstanding.
I realise he isnt perfect
I know he makes a lot of mistakes.
I will critisise him when needed.

Something you can't do for LaMont. Groupie :greedy:

Biscuit smuggler:suspect:

Just don't get carpet burn.

To the others who aren't wearing rose colored glasses - The stats are pretty much meaningless until you can dissect them into importance.

exactly.

It sucks having the DBs make so many tackles, thats supposed to be the LBs job, but it is better than them not making the tackles if that was to happen a team could give up 25+ points a game over two seasons despite having a SGWB as DC. That would be really bad.

Shouldn't that read "a religion named after a 7th round draft pick rookie who outperformed every veteran player in the entire secondary, including a former first-round pick and two second-round picks...."

Granted, this isn't so much a compliment to Hill, as it is an indictment of Woolfolk, LT, and Tank. (And we won't even talk about Beckham....)

He outperformed them in terms of 3 ints, he had his moments of great cover and moments of bad cover. He never out tackled any of them and that I am sure will be his off season focus. The sky is the limit for Hill. Do you believe the three you mentioned are peaked out on performance. Indictment, means they are in the court of public opinion... So that would mean the jury is still out. Depends on which way the meter moves in the upcoming camps. Hopefully Reynaldology will spur them like horses get spurred. That would entice and produce better safety play and that will also encite a preseason battle for the starting corner spot between Hill and Andre.... May the best performer win....:toast:

I'm kinda confused on this one guys. I want to say that Lamont sorta sucks, but some strange elf magic seems to have been worked on me. Now I am having visions of a secondary that flies to the ball and knocks out opponents cold. In my mind now are the images of dread locks and DOOM. I imagine a Titan secondary with Fuller at FS and Lamont at SS.
We give up some tackling for better cover ability.
Maybe I have had a vision of the future, maybe I am drunk...

Or maybe I've been horse collared by the Elf. Run Gunny, Run. Or the Elf will get you too...

They are called Delusions.

I would love nothing more then Lamont and Fuller or whoever sitting opposite Thompson to kick-a$$, but I just don't see it happening.

Improved Cornerback play may help, it may not. Thompson may be just terrible or he may have just had a bad year. Whatever helps us get back to the top.

I wouldn't blame Thompson's lack of toughness on a DC. He was the same way at Cinci and they got rid of him. Personally, I think he sucks and wish they'd get someone who can make plays.

The way I look at is, if our entire seconday sucks, and they did last year, then there has to be more to it than poor individual play.

Awww, I'm just a sweet, innocent, harmless little ol' Elf. I'd never horse collar a guy. But I'm pleased that you are seeing things my way:kiss: .

There are far too many people that would be inclined to agree with this statement.

Far too many people vs. a general manager who has been in the business for longer than I've been alive. Hmmm, hmmm, wonder who knows best?

Floyd Reese is a smart guy and he knows what he's doing. If he didn't have any faith in LaMont and felt that he sucked, he would never have given him the bonus or signed him on for another 3 years.

Just admit that YOU were wrong and LaMont is a great safety. C'mon BiPolar and Aussie Boy, I know you can do it. Just say it. Go ahead. C'mon, just say it.:brow:

Never has it been proven that Lamont is a great safety. His extention backs up reese's faith in him, but it certainly doesn't go any farther than that. You don't even say anything about him other than things like "he's great, one of the premier safties in the league, etc..." without analysis. If you could explain to us WHY he got the extention, other than it being because he's "great", it would be more helpful... I asked my dog three times if LT's contract would be extended, and he barked every time, turns out he was right, but it certainly didn't explain it to me...

here come the reality police...

Extending a contract a year or two is not that big of a deal. If he cut him he'd have to find someone of better or equal talent before the season begins. If he thought he could do that he'd cut Lamont like a little Jewish baby at a brisk. I'll admit that LaMont is a great safety when he starts turning in solid performances in every outing. He's too spotty. Spotty enough to suck a little. There were games where he completely mailed it in. In fact there were games where the entire defense mailed it in but that is beside the point... bottom line... Lamont Thompson is very average. What makes him suck is that he has it within himself to play to an above average level... approaching outstanding... he showed glimpses of this in 2004 before things fell apart completely (injury situation). I thought he would turn around the downswing he experienced in late 2004 early in the season this year...Lamont was flat this year. He made the occasional play... enough to feel the love, but dawg, it just didn't do it for me. Week in and week out he was late, grabbing folks by the backs of their shoulder pads and swinging them around and around until they fall down, arm tackling, getting run over, tripping over Andre Woolfolk in the end zone...

It just never seemed to get any better...And you always knew when it was Lamont getting beat because you see those dreads whip around just as his knee pads spontaneously combusted... Lord help him if a rb broke the secondary... He's supposed to be there, and WHAP! whistle... Hell no, he's got to "get a bead on the guy"... mic him up on TV and he'll say,

Lamont #28 : hahahaha!!! keep running you fool! When you run into the white grass they will make you stop! you can't win!

Lamont has my support. If he's one of our guys that's just the way it is. He owes me though. My cheap seats run me $760 to the club each year. I'm not even factoring in the associated expenses wrapping up so much recreation around the NFL, but, that's just in tickets alone. Over the past two years he has sucked to one degree or another 1/2 to 1/3 of the time... That's being generous. By this rationale he could theoritically owe me somewhere on the order of $550-$1175 ...:greedy: ...still, I don't want my money back, or his money...I want my monies worth.

He's lacking. He had better know it. Just because his contract is getting worked and paid on doesn't mean that he can't end up on the wire or seal the deal on someone else's trade. Unless he profoundly improves, he will not be part of the long term solution of the new era of Tennessee Titans football.

I hope Lamont takes the thoughts and opinions of posters like me and uses it as personal motivation. I want to see Lamont make more plays... Impact plays... I want d's to game plan around him. That is what can make an average safety an oustanding safety. We have our doubts and for good reason. Floyd wouldn't have "faith" like you speak of in LaMont if he had the proven results of a winner in his hands. Floyd needs his faith because what he and everybody else sees with their eyes concerns them greatly.

The biggest problem with this team is that Floyd and Fish keep players around long after they have been proven to be no good.
It isnt anything new, but we will see what Lamont does in the upcoming season, if he is still around and if he is a starter.

Bah, whatever. But don't Lamont and Tank look SO cute in that picture!
