PFF is great when it supports my opinion and trash when it does not.
That seems to be the rule of thumb around here.PFF is great when it supports my opinion and trash when it does not.
This is one of those cases where you need to keep track of specific posters. Some people go by PFF due to lack of other options for the super-metrics and some hate PFF cause half or more of their stats don't quite make sense or have little explanation how they came up with the number score for players.Absolutely a freak injury.
I’ve seen a lot of people use their grading system to justify arguments against player performance. So....
just as an example, you can check my entire history here (no actual need) and you will find a pretty consistent standpoint of not liking PFF. Not a fan, don't use it to argue for/against any player's performance. Some people do.
That will help with some of your generalizations regarding the entire GT board.
Idk who this was directed at but I don't think I've ever used pff stats or co-signed them. It seems like a lot of their stuff is just "this guys the best because we said so and we watch lots of football!"PFF is great when it supports my opinion and trash when it does not.
The fucken ratbirds manYep, I think he landed awkwardly, ill have to see if i can find it
I had a buddy do that, getting escorted out of bar in Buffalo lol
Found it, he was clipped and came down awkwardly, yes freak injury
My beef with PFF as well. Don't follow them at all but in the Stats thread, PFF pops up a lot.Idk who this was directed at but I don't think I've ever used pff stats or co-signed them. It seems like a lot of their stuff is just "this guys the best because we said so and we watch lots of football!"

If there was some sort of explanation with some of the rankings, I may find it more useful, but without that, some of the rankings just seem so far out into left field I have a hard time taking them serious.
We really can afford to lose him if he wants too much. Evans and Long are fine. Would love to see Jayon back on a team friendly deal though.
We badly need someone who can cover. Jayon is probably our best bet there.
Also, if we don't sign him, there are some really exciting LB's that would make any team better than could be available for our first round pick - Micah Parsons, Zaven Collins, JOK from Notre Dame. I wouldn't be angry if we took Parsons or Collins, especially if we used them at edge some. Parsons came to Penn State as a DE and might be the best blitz LB that I've ever watched in college.

Evans and Long worked fine last yr. And Jayon is gonna wanna get paid this offseason.

PFF Player Grades | PFFPFF Grades: On every play, a PFF analyst will grade each player on a scale of -2 to +2 according to what he did on the play. From there, the grades are normalized to better account for game situation and are finally converted to a 0-100 scale
That's kind of helpful, but still doesn't really explain what makes the play a -2 to +2.
I mean there's guesses from an outsider to PFF what makes sense, but seems very subjective and still doesn't really explain some of those games where it seems like a player had an awful game but still ended with a high rank or a game played well, with a low ranking.
If you dig into the link I posted theres a fair explanation of how they grade guys. That's kind of helpful, but still doesn't really explain what makes the play a -2 to +2.

The grades are what you can trust, rankings dont tell you if a guy is good or bad.
Just bad timing on my part to ask for it. I can't open the link where I'm at. Gonna be home in a couple weeks. If you dig into the link I posted theres a fair explanation of how they grade guys.

What do y’all think about re-signing Jayon and starting Brown & Long Jr at ILB and trying Evans out at EDGE?

I believe pretending that Evans has any ability as a edge rusher is part of the reason we had no pass rush last season.

Evans is so dang perplexing to me...why can he time up the snap count and burst through the OL on 4th downs to make key stops, but then not be able to get to the QB on a blitz up the middle when their should be more space to operate.
The problem is they don’t know what the players are coached to do on every play so how can they grade them on “doing their job” when they may not know what the job
well more times than not its pretty obvious when a guy messes upThe problem is they don’t know what the players are coached to do on every play so how can they grade them on “doing their job” when they may not know what the job

Yeah there’s definitely times it’s obvious but someone who hasn’t played high level football isn’t the type of person I’d want judging that.
