Got pissed off and went to bed before the game was over so just now setting up this thread for anyone who wants to discuss that chit show from last night.

I turned off the game early myself. This team knows how to agitate their fan base quite well lol. All I can say is this is the only game that we could afford to lose. We can recover and should win next week. I would have liked a week 17 game with division wrapped up but that didn’t happen. I just hope the raiders screw up on sat night doesn’t come back to haunt us next week. We were 19 seconds away from clinching a spot to playoff fight next week. It’s never easy being a Titans fan

Aaron Rodgers has played many snow games. He was out there laughing and smiling all game. Meanwhile our team looked like they just wanted to go home (Vrabel included).

Anyone who thought the snow was an advantage for us is crazy. Rodgers plays in horrible weather all the time.

We were bullied and pushed around at the LOS on both sides of the ball last night. And probaly the worst part was KNOWING that we would be out coached after the first possession. I don't know whats worse. Arthur Smith's inability to make adjustments or having no DC.
Being the underdog is not a bad thing, but as usual we dissappear in the big games.

Lol no but we need a DC to improve our Defense and get away from these zone coverages. Man I miss Pees and Coombs.
You guys ever think we've been running zone because our pass rush is awful? You can't hold up in man coverage for 4+ seconds.

Looking at Pro-football Reference, we're middle of the road in blitz %, 19th in the league. Who are these great pass rushers and blitzers we should be sending to help out our fantastic man coverage secondary?

Like you have stated before our personnel is garbage

Most fans know the defense is bad, so there shouldn't be too much surprise that the Packers marched up and down the field on the Titans all night. Unless the offense plays near perfect, the Titans will have difficulty winning.

The first quarter was a microcosm of how this poor defense hurts the offense. Packers had two long drives, netted two touchdowns (12 total point) and won time of possession 11 min to 4 min. Overall, Packers won TOP by 13 minutes. Hard to win when the offense is constantly facing double digit deficits. Losing the TOP battle has also been an recurring theme all season and points to the defense's main liability; 3rd down defense.

This liability, along with the bottom ranked red zone defense, were liabilities that the Packers exploited as they ranked at the top of the league converting third downs and redzone trips into TDs. I saw a few blitzes and attempts at trying to bring pressure by Vrabel and Co, but it was a lot of zone coverage with the corners playing about 7-10 yards off. The blitzes led to opposite results. Titans brought pressure on the Rogers INT and on the sack on fourth down. At the same time, that long completion to Adams on 3rd and 10 in the fourth quarter came on a zero blitz, or cover 1, i forget exactly, but it was a blitz. At this point, it's up to the offense to score 30+ every game.

The big takeaway for this season will be that the Titans went from an average to at times ok defense to the lowest ranked in a single season. A complete rebuild of the defensive coaching staff would seem to be the first step in trying to fix the defense. Too many players have significantly regressed this season for coaching not to have been an issue. Titans have dropped from over 40 sacks last season, to 15 or so this season. Ouch.

At the same time, Robinson will have his hands full this offseason with the lower cap figure and the near certainty that Butler (arguably the best or second best defensive player this season). will have to be a cap casualty due to his salary. Robinson will have difficult decisions whether he wants to re sign Jayon Brown, Desmond King, and Dequan Jones. Vaccaro's salary and performance means he's likely gone as well. All of this has to be addressed and at the same time he has to figure out how to bring in some players to create some semblance of a pass rush. Rebuilding a team from 2-14 and 3-13 is one thing, keeping that team a contender is another.

If the Titans even had a below average defense this season, they could still be considered a true contender. At this point, the stars would have to align much in the same way it did last year for the Titans to truly be a contender.

As for the offense, kudos to the Packers defense. They made Henry earn every yard and kept Tannehill under a lot of duress. Their defense came to play and I salute them.

It's the worst defense in the league. Let them all go.

If Byard didn't have like $17m in dead cap space in 2021 I'd be all for letting him go too. Dude has made a living off lollipop interceptions and getting taken for a ride in the run game.

Jones is the only guy you mentioned I'd think about keeping, but he's too one-dimensional to really be upset about leaving.

Invest in the offense. Tannehill, Henry, and Brown are under contract for two more years. Try to get Davis to take a short-term deal and keep those guys together.

A defense filled with mid-level free agents can't be worse than what we fielded this season.

Defense wins championships. It's a known saying for a reason.

As I've said numerous times this season - others as well - if this offense isn't near elite, wins will be hard to come by.

Byard saying "we need to fix some things".

In week 16.
He needs to fix himself. I'm a fan but he's as big a reason the defense sucks as anyone.

I thought his role may have changed to give the #2 CB more support but, with Adoree back, he's still not close to the player he was.

Do we need a DC to get guys to tackle?
No... but yes?

My biggest issue is if we had a DC, someone would be "responsible". A person's career would be on the line and there would be some accountability.

If your entire defense isnt tackling.. DC is gonna be up asses. He is going to be all over them because he knows his ass is in the crosshairs.

Right now there is 0 and I mean NO accountability on the defense... The HC who normally would be blistering the DC (if not firing him) is now making excuses for the "DC"

"we have to coach better, we have to play better, we need to make plays" for 15 straight games.
