No... but yes?

My biggest issue is if we had a DC, someone would be "responsible". A person's career would be on the line and there would be some accountability.

If your entire defense isnt tackling.. DC is gonna be up asses. He is going to be all over them because he knows his ass is in the crosshairs.

Right now there is 0 and I mean NO accountability on the defense... The HC who normally would be blistering the DC (if not firing him) is now making excuses for the "DC"

"we have to coach better, we have to play better, we need to make plays" for 15 straight games.
We have a defensive coordinator. All of that is happening.

You guys have gotten so fixated on this issue because there isn't anyone to blame directly and you have no idea what to do about it.

Would you be ok with getting more talent and keeping our current "DC"?

I agree we need more talent but don't think it has to be one or the other. We need both.

I think Vrabel is a crap DC and have no idea how Bowen was qualified to do it, but if we had better Jimmies and Joes the Xs and Os would look a lot better, regardless.

Defense needs a complete rebuild in my opinion. That includes both the coaching staff and the talent. I think that a rebuild should start with the defensive coaching staff being purged and letting a new staff taking over. Then you let that staff help rebuilt the defensive talent.

If Vrabel and Bowen are allowed to stay as the "DC" then a massive talent upgrade would be in order.

I'm not an analyst and my opinions can always be wrong but I also think a decent DC could get more out of these guys.

How much more? No clue and no way to prove it

Sometimes they just look lost. Then there are times where they look like they don't even trust themselves to make basic plays.

We will have to get more talent for sure, especially rushing the passer. With that being said, we agree on Vrabel and Bowen so hopefully the front office does as well and we fix that too

Theres no excuse for professional NFL athletes to be this bad on defense. Personnel is to blame. Also scrubs on the d line dont help

Problem is, I don’t think there is a dearth of talent on defense other than on the edge and maybe interior depth. By and large, it’s the same guys we’ve been solid with the last few years.

But maybe players like Byard, Evans, Vacarro and Landry have just regressed and it has nothing to do with coaching.

Still, I believe if this team could find any semblance of a pass rush then the current Jimmies and Joes would look a lot better and what we’ve been used to seeing prior to this year. The pass rush is all time bad.

How did Laundry regress so much compared to last season, he had double digits sacks last season and not even close to matching last seasons production.

This same defense made plenty of plays when it mattered under Pees/Coombs last year, or Atleast enough to get by. We did lose a few players but we also got much better on paper, this off-season. There’s a huge lack of leadership/ accountability on the defensive side with both players and coaches. The fact that Vrabel continues to dismiss the defensive issues and not accept responsibility just makes it worse! You would think they would be changing schemes to try to find some way to stop opposing offenses but it’s the same thing every week. The players are regressing! I’m worried that Vrabel will not ever own up to making a mistake not hiring a legitimate defensive coordinator which makes me worry things will not change this off season. Yes missing a few key players hurts, but players have constantly been out of position and miss easy tackles that falls on Vrabel and company!

A bigger defensive decline overall was from '18 to '19. The Titans were 21st in total defense in '19 after being #8 in '18.

In '18, Casey had 7 sacks and Jayon Brown 6. Harold had the same 4.5 as a rookie he has now when you'd expect his production to be much higher.

I agree some of the same players who were productive in '18 have regressed but I also don't think we've seen the development of Landry and especially Evans that needed to happen. Simmons is a young talent but he's not the pass rusher Casey was.

The Titans need to find that one talent, like Kearse as a rookie was or Haynesworth his final season, that had a ripple effect making the entire defense much better.

Devante Adams was covered by Vacarro and Byard in the endzone and he just turned around the other way leaving them two standing there playing with themselves.

He needs to fix himself. I'm a fan but he's as big a reason the defense sucks as anyone.

I thought his role may have changed to give the #2 CB more support but, with Adoree back, he's still not close to the player he was.

He’s trending toward Michael Griffin 2.0

No idea why but we had change of direction issues on both sides of the ball. We couldn't stay with their receivers on defense and on offense our guys weren't getting separation in their pass routes (Davis was pathetic). Many of Tannehill's completions were into tight windows and our pass protection failed making things worse.

In reality Henry was not having that much of an off day. He gets stoned a few times early in games and was finding some room as the game went on but they had basically taken him out of the game with the score. At times it reminded me of the Pats snow game where the only guy who had any effectiveness was CJ.

That's largely true. Casey, Ryan, Correa, and Adoree until now are missing from last year. And other than King and Clowney for a few games we didnt replace that lost talent.
It is certainly some combination of degraded personnel on D, and the loss of Pees & Coombs that have caused the drop off.

Also, our offense is looking great while not really making any additions and losing Lewan. It's worth mentioning that the offensive numbers (at least passing) would not be as high as they are if the defense were better.

It's rarely just one thing.

Packers, both lines were overpowering the Titans. Tanny was rarely unpressured and normally had no one open to receive a pass.
It's like all our guys were a step slower.
This no pass thing is getting old and a big reason we lost against the Chiefs in the playoffs.
I know attempts were made to make it better. I had hoped the addition of Clowney would free up better pathways to the qb . I was wrong, I admit it.
I guess if I knew the answer, I might have the DC,s job if we had one.

Byard was our highest rated player on defense per PFF. Not that was anything great but he was not as big of a problem as the other guys. Simmons might as well have stayed on the bus.
It is true he was the highest graded player, but he wasnt graded high, everyone else just was lower than him.
