The term "wife beater", "wife bee", "beater" came from the fact that on the old school Cops shows, nearly every guy that was arrested for domestic violence was wearing a white tank top.

White tank tops became synonymous with wife beating. It ain't right, but it is what it is.:irked:

Now that you mention it, there does seem to be an unusually large amount of white tank tops on the wife beaters in those shows.
