Kneeling and raising a fist sends a different message than a salute or arm over the heart. The latter two are forms of patriotism not forms of cultural equality protesting.

she’s a professional athlete. I think it’s more than a coincidence that she hasn’t scored well this year despite executing clearly more difficult moves. I think her withdrawal is more about protesting than championing mental illness.
And that in no way reflects my personal opinions about mental health. I’m all pro mental health. Just don’t believe that is truly the issue here.
I recommend a HBO documentary “Weight of Gold” to get a glimpse of what some of these athletes deal with.
Biles is the face of the U.S. Olympic team. She’s the best ever doing stuff the guys won’t even try. The pressure she’s under to be the best goes well beyond what typical professional athletes endure (and she’s not technically a professional, btw).
The way I heard it described is she couldn’t “find the floor” or has the “twisties” which is like a golfer having the “yips”. Is it mental illness? Emotional stress? I dunno. Something is clearly off.
I do know the kind of “yips” Biles has can means she could break her neck so she’d be nuts to risk her future until she’s gets it figured out.
I find it difficult to see how anyone who has accomplished what she has could be looked at as “soft”.

Sure, I understand what you're saying. She's tough to accomplish what she has accomplished.
But it is more than just coincidence that the "mental health" issues arose to a breakpoint during a competition in which she was not receiving the scores she felt she deserved. And do believe she was being unfairly treated.
But in life, times arise when every person is unfairly treated. And I come from the generation where you don't quit for whatever reason. You don't pick up your ball and go home if you or your team is losing. I just don't believe that "mental health" is the reason she withdrew. It is very popular now to platform a way out of what is unpleasant or unrewarding.

shes leaving when she was not winning gold. Petulant/soft. The mental health is a platform excuse. If she had not been unfairly judged and was going to receive gold , I believe she’s still be there and not withdrawing.
I’m old school. You don’t quit on your team or your country. This platform reasoning is a BS rationalization of quitting. I get it paints me as an insensitive, “unwakened” azz. I don’t care. Quitting is quitting. It’s just soft IMO
