zzTop -1 for having never played one original note in their existence

Name three rock bands that did...
ZZ copped Robert Johnson - that's going pretty darn out of your way to be unoriginal...
Hendrix said Billy Gibbons was his favorite guitarist :guitar: that's damn cool on it's own merits..

ZZ's stuff thru Deguello was btchin' - MTV and the car wasn't even the same band...

Don't make me drag the prog out :grrhee:

Seriously, as a bass player who played in an award-winning Blues Preservation Society band, it would be too soon if I never heard another I-IV-V progression again.

Sure, Hendrix loved Gibbons...but Hendrix was also stoned. A lot.

Robert johnson?

I was thinking they were more influenced by muddy waters and people of that generation. More boogie blues like hound dog taylor but they may have not known much about him he was chicago based... That said i think they are good enough blues men to stay afloat and i wished i voted against someone else the last time.. Plus the name ZZ top came from the 2 top selling brands of rolling papaers zig-zag and tops..

To answer cruds question as to which bands had an original sound? Well let's see kansas, queen, yes, rush, genesis, peter gabriel, bowie, floyd.. The bands i have been supporting.

I would have thought something similar but a while back I read an interview with Billy where he was talking up Robert Johnson. I picked up a few RJ records and it was all there - ZZ Top's roadmap to riffs and songwriting...

.
I could make a list as long as my arm of bands that had an original sound and it wouldn't be limited to bands you or I like and would surely include the likes of Black Flag right along with so many of those Prog Rock outfits.

But the question was not who had an "original sound" it was to name three Rock bands that played original notes or in other words did not steal stuff from music that came before them. If anyone truly thinks there's a band from our lifetimes, playing 6 string guitars in traditional tunings, drums, bass guitar, piano/keys, etc. that haven't borrowed or outright stolen from musicians that came before them they'd be wrong...

Avvie doesn't like minor blues and fair enough, good music is in the ear of the beholder, but those Prog bands didn't invent the modes they incorporate into their music - they've been around forever...

And as a guitar player voted best Nashville Rock guitarist 2005 (nashvillerock.net competition) and in a band who just won best Underground Rock Band in Nashville (Buzzy Awards) I still loves me them blues progressions...:)

I swear, you have made more posts btching about the band list than posts you've added votes in.
Early on Childress PM'd me saying he'd like to add some bands and it was no problem. I would have done the same for anyone else who asked. It was the random addition of bands in every post that had to be stopped or the game would have gone out of control.
Later, I explained that I copied the list from another forum and even deleted many underground bands from that list that I didn't think people would know.
If you want to add some bands, please PM them to me and I will add them...

I beg to differ.

Don't get me wrong I like ZZ Top but their only music that made it over here came from Eliminator,Afterburner & Recycler. It was too much of the same for me & I wasn't inspired to explore any more of their catalogue.

Once again..

I have a problem with public masturbation. A guy giving head to a microphone is not my idea of a great rock band.

What band sounded like yes before there was yes? None. Bohemian rhapsody is not original? Brian may the guitar player for queen has been using a guitar for over 40 years that he made himself. He and his father who was an engineer for the british government tore up an old fire place and made a guitar when he was 16! The guitar is different, it sounds different.

C'mon CC, don't go splitting hairs with that "no original note" thing...you know what I meant and how I meant it. There are probably, at any given time, ten bands in nearly every county in the United States that play the exact same stuff over and over and over and over ad infinitum. Not so with other styles.

And as a guitar player voted best Nashville Rock guitarist 2005 (nashvillerock.net competition) and in a band who just won best Underground Rock Band in Nashville (Buzzy Awards) I still loves me them blues progressions...

This place ain't big enough for both of our egos..let's take this outside and go toe-to-toe...:chuck: I'll whip out my Brothers Johnson and beat you with it!
