Gunny...

But how do you call a team world champions when it is only played in one country and there isnt any competition from the outside world.
---------------------------

Because there isn't any competition elswhere in the world.

Football is played in other countries just not very well. I here even australia has a league. :ha:

I just returned from a trip up to Pittsburgh. Boy are they some cocky mothers. Everwhere you go its, "Welcome to Pittsburgh; home of the World Champion Steelers," and everyone gets rowdy.

Well anyways I talked with numerous fans about them losing Hope (Chris, that is, although I also think they've lost hope for a repeat), Randel El and the Bus. They talked as if the loss of Hope would be more hurtful then that of Randel El. I thought that was pretty strange; I know they'll miss Hope (certainly Polamalu will), but I thought that they'd really be hurting without Randel El.

Anyways, I just thought that was a little strange, but it was nice to hear that they were more worried about losing Hope then Randel El.

I live with that every day of my life. I live in Ohio about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. The day after the Superbowl I didn't even want to go out of my house just for that fact that I can't stand Steeler fans....And besides half the people I know didn't even like the Steelers until they went 15-1...They're all like " OOoooh Big Ben destroyed that team last week!" Freaking bandwagon jumpers..Seems like only yesterday all Steeler fans were like "Did you see Tommy Guns game last week? It was amazing!" Don't even get me started on the subject...........

I heard the Dream Team said that during the olympics about Basketball.

There is competition, every year there is a competition in QLD where American state teams come out and play each other or some Aussie state teams.

And how would you know it isnt played very well? Some Aussie state teams have beaten American state teams - not often, but it has happened.

If the countries outside the USA had proper coaching, proper league set up etc there would be challenges.

But that is neither here nor there. You're not a world champion when you play a sport in one country.

Out of curosity what is a U.S. state team. Too my knowledge Tennessee does not have any recognized state team. Are you referring to amature clubs from certain states? It would be interesting to know who was playing on the Tennessee state team.

I agree with you completly about the coaching. American style football a specialized sport and for good or bad pre teens get slotted into positions and there they are for ever. I think the biggest hurdle the rest of the world faces when it comes to American football is the coaching/specialization.

I played a few years ago and I was 15 then playing against players who were had finished High School but did not get a college scholarship (I played Idaho East and New Mexico state teams but it seemed like every state had at least one team there), how the state teams were pick I do not know. I guess they held a try out or offer places to seniors in high school who did not get a college scholarship.

But Ahman Green did play in the tournament years ago.

definately, especially when you have so many position coaches. We don't get the specialised coaching positions.
Last season our coach (he was american and played at WKU a few years ago) was bewildered about how different it was compared to the US and it is hard to teach guys ranging from 17 - 38 techniques on football in a short period of time.
