This blog was written four years ago. But I include it in this thread for a refresher, because it remains true every year.

Draft Picks Visits/Interviews are a big deal for teams interested in a prospect. Even so much to the point where tendencies can be spotted if you actually put pen to paper. And by process of elimination, you can kind of iron down who we're slated to take to about 2 players or so (this explains exactly why I had a real bad feeling we were going to take Treylon Burks before the drafted even started in '22.)

The only exception to the rule was 2018 where Rashaan Evans was taken in 1st as opposed to Harold Landry. But there could have been a number of reasons for #2 position evaluated leaping the 1st --- as we traded up in both scenarios - but let all that be discussed in the comments. (also as "Safety in 2018" is omitted as it was a 4th round pick & not a 3rd.)

When broken down, all 3 of our first 3 draft picks the past 3 years, have made some kind of visit/interview made public to the media. Even moreover, all 3 (2019, 2018, 2017) also were the most scouted/evaluated positions.

2019 - QB 2 RB 3 WR *6* TE 3 OL *8* DL/E *19* LB 3 CB 5 S 5

(19) DL/E - Jeffery Simmons, (6) WR - AJ Brown, (8) OL - Nate Davis

2018 - QB 6 RB 3 WR 8 TE 2 OL 3 DL/E *10* LB *7* CB 4 S 6

(7) LB - Rashaan Evans, , (10) DL/E - Harold Landry (6) S - Dane Cruikshank

2017 - QB 1 RB 2 WR *11* TE 4 OL 4 DL/E *9* LB 5 CB *10* S 2

(11) WR - Corey Davis (10) CB - Adoree Jackson (11) WR - Taywan Taylor

This year, per WF, PFF, and other spaced out single sources - the position groups that have made visits/workouts/interviews/facetimes that are available to the media are as follows:

(covid-19 also having an affect on most OFFICIAL 30 visits.)

QB 2 RB 2 WR 4 TE 0 OL *4* DL/E *7* LB 0 CB *6* S 1

now for last year's official visits according to WF.

Bo Nix is a bit of a shocker lol - hopefully it's just a bluff intended to manipulate the chaos north AND south of pick #7.

Bo Nix is definitely a shocker. But it was only a combine meeting. So I don't know that I would breathe too much into it. It looks like the Buccaneers met with just about every player at the combine, lol.

For those that don’t click the link
COM = combine meeting
PRI = private meeting

Thanks

It's good not to click that link. The Walter Football website is full of resource hogging ads and other crap that will cause my cooling fans to go max speed as processor usage to spike like crazy.

In general, I’m against any sites that purposely leave a title only to get a click regardless how stupid their title is.
It’s more aggravating to find out when it’s not even anything confirmed, only speculation.

In this case, no shot at OP, he posted the list. I just didn’t know what the parentheses abbreviations were.

I always like to look at these lists and run a few mock drafts to see what we are probably going for. Every year it lines up pretty well. This year it doesn't. The only way this list of players makes sense is if we pick at 7, and then trade 38 for a two picks around the 55-62 and 85-94. Then the players on this list line up perfectly with those spots. Trade with the Ravens would work. Maybe another trade up later to get the Edge from Ole Miss.

I may have stumbled upon our plan.

Both Colson and Carson are projected to be third round picks in the 70s. We must have a trade partner lined up to get a pick in that range.

There are so many visits now that don't seem to fit our pick range. These are top of the 2nd round guys? Or we think they are going to fall to 106? Or maybe... we already have a trade planned.
I think it may be due diligence.
It doesn’t hurt to see all these guys just in case. I think you’re right, they’re not all considered for #7 but maybe trades are on table, maybe they’re looking at potential 2nd round picks.

never know whose gonna be there or 3 years from now who might be on the outside looking in wanting a roster spot... at least you already interviewed them
