This kid is a stud. Can't believe he was missed in the draft. Great vision, balance, burst and almost always makes the first guy miss if he has any room. Then he is powerful for his size and can drag guys a few extra yards. Watch his college highlights and you see what we have been seeing in the pre-season. The kid is a keeper and might be better than Evans.

He did look great. I’m taking that performance with a grain of salt though.
It seems like most RBs that have gotten a shot for us lately have looked good.
McNichols, for example, looked like a stud when given opportunity last year.

McNichols is OK but Sargent almost makes it look effortless at finding the crease and running through tackles. He is the kind of RB that really makes the OL look good because he doesn't need much room and is precise in his decisions. The way he kept his legs moving for extra yardage was really impressive. Almost reminded me of Emmitt Smith the way he found the hole and scooted through. If there were arms in his way they didn't even slow him down.

I hope we get to see him against some defenders that will be on an NFL roster next week. He could end up being the next James Robinson, but I’m not ready to say he’s more than a flash in the pan yet.

But on the flipside, what has Evans really shown us? With as much field time as he has actually had, he's pretty much just a flash in the pan as well.

True. And he hasn’t even really flashed. I’m ready to move on from Evans. This offense has never really supported the scat back type (dion lewis, darrynton evans), but the big bruisers seem to do well consistently.

I said in another thread... Sargent is my #2RB on depth chart. If I never see Evans again, I could not care less, he is made of glass. McNichols seems to be overall OK, but Sargent has taken better advantage of his snaps.

No love for Brian Hill?

I wouldn't consider Evans to be a scat back. He's a great fit for the ZBS unlike Lewis and a converted WR, but that doesn't mean much if he continues to be injured. In terms of talent, there's no comparison. Sargent may be a nuisance for defenses in late game situations but the offense is kind of predicated on having a home run threat at RB which Evans is (theoretically speaking, since we haven't actually been able to see it)

RB is the position where you can easily get an unsung hero.

I like what I saw from Sargent against TB. He doesn't have top end speed, but he hits that hole with authority and doesn't go down easy. Reminds of Dalyn Dawkins in how quick he can get to the second level.

I really like to see him get the start next weekend against the Bears to see what he can do against players that will be on the roster.

Can't crowd him a roster lock just yet. He still has 1 last chance to prove himself (if he hasn't already done so in practice).

I liked how Sargent looked in the first preseason game as well. And while, yes, it is against weaker competition, he has been sharing snaps with the other RBs against the same competition and he sticks out to me compared to the others.

Cant judge a player on one game

But having put together that game Saturday behind this verison of our OLine was something to keep an eye on tho.

Only issue with the kid is picking up blitzes which I don't see as a problem at all with some work. A poor man's Frank Gore at 5'8, 210. Perfect compliment to Henry and great out of the back field.

I really hope we keep Sargent. He looks genuinely good and he's done too much to stash on the practice squad - I think someone else would pick him up based on what we've seen. He seems to work through the first contact every time and hits the hole hard. Dare I say he's our 2nd best RB...

God I hope so. He’s earned it.
