Why are the Jag included? Constantly under performing, no WR core, an injury prone RB and QB, an entirely new coaching staff less the head coach. A fan base that has been told sell out or the team will have to move.
The Jags have a new OC, but that's the only major change (not like their last OC was so great). The QB and WR spots are still question marks like before (can't be worse than last year, can it?), but RB is set between Taylor and Drew. And their D is still top notch. They were close to making the playoffs last year and probably would have if not for our 3 turnover return TDs that game. As fan support means nothing in this case.

I think KC is a stretch too.
They are probably the bottom of my list, but they made it last year and haven't lost a ton, so I'm hardly going to count them out.

The poor performances of the Jaguars passing game and special teams have cost five assistant coaches their job. Offensive coordinator Carl Smith, special teams coordinator Pete Rodriguez, quarterbacks coach Ken Anderson, wide receivers coach Steve Walters and special teams assistant Mark Michaels were informed by head coach Jack Del Rio on Tuesday that they would not be retained in 2007.

That is 5 new coaches all on the O. Taylor has not played a full season in 4, and MJD showed he can not carry the team when he is out. There D softened a bit with the loss of Grant. I just do not see them doing much more then they did last season.

Fine, but that's mainly just the offense which everyone agrees needed major work. And their special teams had been a disappointment for a while. Seeing as how bad their offense was last year, I doubt a coaching turnover is going to cause them to regress on that side of the ball...

I'd have to be surprised, because I think it's unlikely anyone not on that list has a significant chance.

I'm not doubting that your predictions are rational (except for the Hags). The reality is, however, that teams that no-one expects to have a shot WILL make the playoffs.

This wasn't a one-year fluke thing last year. I went back and looked at the stats for the last 5 years (since the league went to 32 teams) and EVERY year there were at least 4 teams with losing records that turned it around and made the playoffs. Even in the NFC, the Saints making the playoffs was stunning considering they were the 2nd worst team in the NFL the year before.

There will be extenuating circumstances EVERY YEAR. I don't know who it will be, but I'm certainly willing to believe the stats.

They may not regress but I do not see an improvment. If FT falls as always the jags go down with him. MJD is a good 2 back that is it, check the games FT was out of. :jagsbite:

this season, my opinion on the texans will remain the same: it's nice knowing we can chalk up at least two wins before the season even starts

i agree... no matter how good their defense is, they cant stop VY

Well, BP, they're certainly capable. They also generally own the jags, and they split with indy this year too. They are very likely to make some serious progress this year, but I don't see them making enough progress to be a serious playoff push.

remember we are talking about a team that took the Titans to overtime.

Then this happened...

The only likely AFC playoff teams are New England, NY, Indy, Jax, Baltimore, Cincy, Denver, San Diego, and KC. I'd honestly be very surprised if anyone else made it (perhaps the Steelers as a darkhorse).

Well, the Titans or the Browns are going tomake the playoffs (along with the Steelers), so I guess you are suitably surprised. Also of the teams you mentioned, the Jets, Baltimore, Cincy, Denver and KC have been awful this year. Back on my previous point, It looks like only 3 of those teams will make the playoffs, but there were an exceptional number of 8-8 teams last year and a number of them will make the playoffs this year.

Teams will continue to go from first to last and vice versa.

Hey, good for the texans, they still can break even. Even if they lose, this still ties with their best season ever... something to really be proud of.
