I'm not wild about David Thorton. Like I've said multiple times in other threads, when the talent pool is so mediocre, moderately talented players are gonna be paid even more. He seems like a pretty good LB, but unless he doesn't get any serious interest (again, LB is a shallow position this year, so this is doubtful), we'd be getting him at an inflated price tag.
they're also said to be eyeing scott fujita.Bulluck said:I hear the Jags are eyeing him...
I would like to get Thorton for sure, but I don't want to break the bank either.
They do, but Akin Ayodele is a FA (another guy we could look at potentially).Gunny said:I thought the jags had a good LB core.
I like Reese's strategy of taking his time and not getting too involved in the FA frenzy. Guys who are picked up early in the signing period are typically overpaid based on their level of talent. By waiting we can get a decent level of talent for the price. If we don't extend McNair's contract to save CAP money in the near future we still don't have a bunch to spend this year but can be in a better postion down the road. Also, this is a good draft class for LBs so overpaying a LB is less desirable.
We could still see some vets become available later as some cuts occur.
