Surely this is starter money. Back up QB's get $6m a year, not backup tackles...

This screams one year started whilst a rookie learns, then gets cut in year 2..

Only 8 of the $21m is guaranteed..

We are still going to draft a tackle, but I don’t see them cutting Kelly.

He obviously can play both tackle positions, he is getting paid like a backup, in fact I can see us maybe keeping him after the 3 years.

Im saying, Kelly starts this year, whilst a rookie sits.

If the rookie is ready in year 2, there's no point having kelly sit there on the bench on $7m a year.

I suspect JRob has structured this deal as Jrob does, essentially a 1-2 year deal under the guise of a 3-4 year deal. See Dion Lewis et al.

Only very few back up qbs make 6 mill...average is 2 mill. Which makes your point even stronger.

I am curious how many backup RT get 7 mill a year? I doubt many.

Edit: Just did some research. 7 mill puts Kelly in the top 10 of NFL right tackles. That is starter money man. I don’t think a back up tackles in the league makes anywhere near 7 mill in the entire league.

Nice signing and Kelly is versatile to play either T position at least ok.
Glad he’s sticking around for depth even if he does start at first.

I’m glad that we didn’t over pay Conklin. Kelly is a step down but very solid and capable. I bet we draft a RT fairly early but at least now we aren’t in dire straits.

So currently in the draft we need starters at OT, CB & EDGE with depth at everything. We’re gonna have to make a few more substantial moves here in FA.

Well, we have 21.5m left.
5.5m estimated for draft, leaves 16m.
We could sign 1 impact player or a few quality depth pieces. That's about it.

Available options
EDGE
Clowney, Fowler, Harris, Wolfe, Jenkins
OT
Buncha old guys, we are going to draft here
CB
Ryan, Trufant, Waynes, Amukamara, Dennard, Apple, Poole, Alexander, Darby, Rhodes
Backup QB
McCoy, McCarron, Bortles, Daniel, Siemian
Backup RB

No chance we draft an OT that starts this year without injury.
CB we have our starters. Hooker to step in and play NB. Still will draft depth.
Edge is the main one im looking for if we don't land a big one in FA.

George Fant, back up tackle just signed a 3 year, 30 mill, 12 mill guaranteed contract.

similar to Dennis Kelly, he is a hybrid tackle, can line up on both sides and also lines up at TE To block
