Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

The Titans being way too run heavy on first down isn't limited to Downing's tenure as OC. It has been an issue since Vrabel became the head coach and has spanned multiple OC's.

Until Vrabel changes his offensive philosophy, it does not matter who the OC is. The Titans will run way too much on first down. This overreliance on first down puts more pressure on the offense creating many 2nd and 3rd and Longs for the offense to overcome.
It's been a problem since the team has existed. Exotic smash mouth. Fisher ball. For some reason our offense literally never evolves.

Downing and his play calling= Tanney ints and poor play. This thread is the truth guy is awful, Tom Brady would look very good here. When they know what you are doing every play in this league you are done, especially with average qb

Did with CJ2K, not sure what happened.

Our screen game & check downs were deadly then -- giving us many avenues to attack with the actual run.

But we gave up drafting scat backs --- we either sign veterans long past what minor prime they had (McCluster) or draft twitch streamers from the Appalachian Mountains.......

that literally needs to change this year. We need to draft a 3rd down/pass catching RB at some point.

Honestly we need 2 pass catchers and 1 bruiser (DH) -- Washington has been the team at the RB position we should at least to try sample from a check down stand point.... always having 3 or 4 good RBs out of the backfield.

There were at least 25 play action plays this season where we either got sacked or had to check down and someone in the game day thread complained about that very play and how we need to run a play action play and look down the field.

Meant to say Brady would not look good here. Tanney was fine or ok until Downing period
Downing has had two pretty bad stints at OC. Of course not everything was his fault, but you rarely have to make excuses for good coaches. I'm hoping the offensive hire Vrabel made has the same impact that Schwartz did, because I saw no reason to expect anything better despite a (hopefully) better receiving group

Vrabel's complacency at OC has been disappointing. He convinced LaFluer to come work with much less than he has now. We need someone who's going to get the ball to Brown 10 times per game instead of the embarrassingly low number of touches he currently gets. Who can utilize what Tannehill is very good at- delivering the ball with consistent timing/accuracy and running-and put him in fewer positions to take sacks or fit the ball into a non-existent window.

Vrabel's complacency at OC is disappointing. LaFluer left LA to come work with a lot less than what we have now. Quality coaches should be lining up for what should be an easy audition for HC for another team. We are absolutely squandering Brown's ability and potential desire to stay at a team where he sees 5 touches per game.

HUH? first off it is an NFL HC job, only 32 of those. He had in GB arguably the best QB in the NFL, a really good running back and a legit Superstar WR. the went to the NFC Championship game. I dont disagree about the Titans OC but to say GB had alot less is silly.

"Todd Downing’s offense the most predictable in the NFL"

meanwhile some of y'all on here are of the mindest "you picked a funny way to say the MOST POWERFUL OFFENSE"..... fess up, which ones are you lol..

I have a feeling Vrabel is going to end up firing Downing -- which is why he signed that passing game coordinator.....

I imagine the plan was the same when Vrabel brought in Schwartz last year, because he was setting up insurance in case he had to fire Bowen.
