Look, good qb's come out of small/or non-powerhouse schools all the time, my point wasn't that Cutler would not be one of them. How would we know? What I AM saying is that people want to annoint him to this status right now, after 4 games that mean nothing (on top of a college career where he played for a team with one of the lowest W-L expectations in D-I b/c of the conference they play in, and thus he has always worked in the milieu of upsets and not winning seasons--I.E., EXPECTATIONS).

And this is where I think the difference b/t Vince and Cutler will be--that when all the pressure's on, when the Broncos hand the reigns to him and EXPECT to go to the playoffs and have a winning season given the talent around him, that Vince has more of that "IT" than either Cutler or Leinart. But of course I don't know--just my best guess. That Vince is one of those guys who finds a way when it matters.

What I'm saying is that the whole reason to draft Vince over the other two has nothing to do with preseason or practice field equivocation of form--the reason I wanted Vince is because I feel that he's the gamer of the three--it's coincidental that he has the upside and is a project. Now, who knows how it will all work out, but in a league where fans of good teams start hitting the panic button if they lose their opening game, you can't just write off how a qb will either rise to the top, tease but never deliver (Plummer), or sink to the bottom. Any of these 3 qb's can be great, but just call me after one has actually stepped into the water before you can expect me to agree with a foregone conclusion of who will sink and who will swim in it.

when Vince made that throw to Roydell williams, did you happen to notice that he was running full speed to his left, and launched a 56 yard pass( threw across his body).. or that he evades the rush quite well, or that he seems t be a great team leader, or that he has as quick a release as I've ever seen... potentially Vince can revolutionize the position, and you can't say that about Leinart or Cutler..

I thought Vince looked pretty good today playing with our ones and not our 2's or scrubs. He avoided the pressure really well and made some darn good throws while on the run. I don't think you'll see Leinart doing much avoiding of pressure. Cutler can scramble but not nearly like Vince can. The other thing was that Vince didn't look to run for yards, he was looking down field for open recievers the entire time he was moving.

Jeeze ... you haters want to judge a guy based on a few preseason games?

Question: I really don't know much about Roydell Williams as I was not a Tennessee fan until Vince came aboard. Does he usually drop so many passes that hit him in the hands?

The higher the pick, the higher the climb. Young was drafted to a team with problems. Cutler was drafted to a team who was in the playoffs. Two different roads. I'm sure that Young would be burning it up in Denver or Seattle or a team who was already successful.

Sports analysts always talk about high pick qb's sometimes washing out because they are put into impossible situations with terrible NFL teams. You are given a bad situation of a team, yet you are competing against teams at the top of the NFL crop.

In all honesty, who does Vince Young have to throw to? What kind of O-line is protecting him and giving him time to look over the defense and call audibles?

Young is a playmaker. A winner. At every level. Against all competition. Cutler, hasn't done jack. And never will. You either have it or you don't. Young has it. Cutler don't. They've played at least 8 years of football already, and Cutler has been owned by Young in every one of 'em. What makes you think that is going to change now. Did Cutler discover some magic bean I don't know about. It's not even about potential. Frankly, Vince is just a better football player.

All the "Young sucks" and "Cutler sucks" threads crack me up. People are absolutely convinced about this player or that player, even though NEITHER of them has ever played in a regular season game. Here's a dollar....use it to get a clue.

I wonder if, back in '83, people had "Elway rules/Marino sucks" and "Marino rules/Elway sucks" arguments? Of course, both players (and Jim Kelly) ended up in the Hall of Fame....which just proves that the naysayers were utterly clueless. We could very well see the same thing happen this year....and the naysayers will look just as stupid as the "Elway sucks/Marino sucks" folks did.

Titanpride, I don't know that there's anything that will make you like the VY pick; it's clear that you prefer a traditional pocket passer, which definitely isn't Vince.

However, perhaps this will assuage your concerns:

In just three weeks, we've already seen a noticeable improvement in Vince's pocket presence. Against the Saints, he looked green and a bit skittish....obviously inexperienced. Against the Packers, he looked much more poised, and has already developed a pass-first mentality, as opposed to a Vick-esque QB who relies mostly on his legs to be effective.

Vince is learning to use his mobility in spots, as opposed to relying on it heavily. Where most QB's might throw the ball away when nobody is open, Vince will head for the sideline and pick up 5 yards. It may not sound like much, but instead of 2nd & 10, the offense faces 2nd & 5; this allows far more flexibility in playcalling and greatly increases the odds of converting the first down.

It's also important to note that, unlike many athletic QB's, Vince is perfectly content to play within the framework of the offense...he's not out there trying to be Superman/cowboy/stuntman, as he was at Texas. He no longer feels the need to singlehandedly make plays...he understands the QB's role in the offense, and tries to put his teammates in the position to make the plays, instead of doing it all himself.

Finally, look at how far he's come...not just in camp, not just since the Rose Bowl, but since last year's Rose Bowl. 18 months ago, he was just another running QB with mediocre passing ability....a guy who would probably be converted to WR in the NFL. Just a year later, he had become the third most efficient passer in the nation. (And this was without the benefit of a good QB coach....Texas is hardly a school known for its QB's.) Now, just a few months later, Vince has progressed even further...no longer does he look like a converted RB, but a true quarterback in every sense of the term. And he has no regular season experience to draw upon! What's more, he has learned from his mistakes, and we haven't seen the same mistake repeated twice. (Remember against the Saints, when he took the 5-yard loss instead of throwing the ball away? He hasn't made that same mistake since.)

This week, the games count. If and when Vince step on the field, it will be for real, against a real NFL defense. Will he take his lumps? Of course....absolutely. But he'll also file the mistakes away and learn from them, so that he can avoid repeating them. As he starts ironing out these wrinkes, he will improve. And by the end of the year, what's left will likely be one helluva good football player.

Most definitely. It just took them a little bit longer.;)
