Would like to see us maybe take DT Ross Blacklock in the 1st to replace the Casey spot. Relentless motor, gets into the backfield early and often. Could make for a violent interior pass rush with a healthy Simmons this year.

I’ve watched TCU vs Baylor,SMU, and Texas over the past 2 days since Gladney, Blacklock, and Reagor are all potentials for us

Blacklock honestly has been underwhelming to me. He made one great goal line stop shooting a gap against SMU. I never saw a counter move in his game and his hand work was nothing to right home about....if he wasn’t able to shoot the gap he wasn’t going to make an impact. I also worry about his Achilles injury that had him miss all of 2018......but that probably is a good sign we draft him since JRob seems to have an affinity for injured players

Honestly Reagor is the one who totally jumps out on tape...Even with poor qb play....wouldn’t surprise me if he goes earlier than most people think and is the 1st Hornfrog off the board

What DL player (that isn't thought of as a top 10 guy) consistently jumps off the tape?

I agree big guys who can stuff the run and get after the QB are hard to find. My complaint with Blacklock is I'm not sure what he does well...he is just average at everything....I think Madubuike, Davidson, Gallimore, Lynch, Agim all show better pass rush moves...they at least show a swim move, a rip, or a spin...in what I've watched I don't see that in Blacklock...he is a big guy who moves well....he has 0 forced fumbles in his career...he has 0 pass defenses in his career and only 5.5 sacks...I want a guy who has shown he can make impact plays in the 1st rnd

Madubuike 4 FF and 4 PD and 10.5 sacks
Agim 6 FF and 4 PD and 11.5 sacks
Davidson 4 FF and 9PD and 17 sacks
Gallimore 5 FF and 2 PD and 9 sacks
Lynch 3 FF and 7 PD and 20 sacks

Alright. At least I know where you are coming from.

My concern with just looking solely at production is that is often going to depend on your role. Lynch put up nice numbers, but he mostly made effort plays that probably don't translate to the NFL. So he is probably a depth guy at best.

This....Brave and I were discussing this yesterday. I want him on our team if he’s sitting at #29. Dude is a baller. We would finally be disruptive on the inside which will make our edge and OLB guys look that much better....I have a hard time thinking we pass on him for someone else if he is there. He fits us so well....

I may change my mind 5 times, but I kind of feel like of guys that we have a reasonable chance of drafting, our board is

1) Kristian Fulton
2) Blacklock

I agree here. We met with Fulton, and you can’t tell me a casey replacement wouldn’t be enticing....Especially since both positions aren’t that deep as others. I would personally be fine with either of them. Just keep in mind, interior pressure makes everything better......

I'd say the real deciding factor if we were choosing between the 2 is who do we like that we think we can get in the 2nd or the 3rd?

Blacklock might have the edge there as I think CB is deeper.

No doubt scheme plays a huge factor...and what role you want him to play in our defense matters...I pretty much agree with you on Lynch...he looks soft and his combine numbers show he isn’t overly athletic. His balance is one thing that I’ve noticed...you think the OL has taken him out of the play and he will bend and stay on his feet and make the play.

those saying this is a poor DT draft are crazy....their is depth

From what i saw of blacklock, he was a better overall player than Gallimore, maduibuike, and Davidson and it wasn't really close for me. Blacklock is super powerful and quick, and it shows on the field. His hands are powerful, he's always pushing back olineman right off the snap. I never see him get pushed back. And with his powerful hands he throws linemen off easily constantly winning 1v1s.

Gallimore is a 1 trick pony who will get murdered in the run game. Davidson is a weird prospect he played edge in college so really hard to get a feel for what he'll be like on the interior dline in the NFL..i wouldn't trust it though... Madubuike was just underwhelming to me, even though his combine numbers are crazy and he had good production..getting Madubuike or jordan elliot in the 2nd would make me happy.

Give me blacklock in the 1st and ill be happy too. Trade back a few spots, pick up an extra pick and then get blacklock or jordan elliot and id be estatic

AJ Epenesa is still my dream pick though. It just seems destined to happen.

I'm with you on Epenesa....Fulton is the other guy I love

I'd rather not take a DT in the 1st, but if I have to take one then I want a guy that has more playmaking ability...we have our run stuffers in Jones and Simmons.

Dont get the Epenesa love

Guy looks very stiff

Best bull rush in college football. Consistently pushes offensive tackles back 5 yards when he decides to use it. 6'6 280 lbs with this stat line out of iowa. The perfect disruptor to have next to Simmons with landry and beasely on the outside especially given a proper nfl diet and workout plan. He's going to be a beast. Ill take him over blacklock, Gallimore, elliot, Maduibuike, any of those guys...

He plays with good leverage and uses his hands very well...very instinctive and quick at diagnosing plays....I agree that he doesn't look like the most fluid athlete and that showed at the combine, but hard to discount his production...watch the Iowa/USC game and see him destroy Austin Jackson

Epenesa is definitely stiff. And plays too high. And is slow off the ball. But he is super powerful. And a real nice fit at 3-4 DE, if he can put on about 10 lbs.

Everybody that we can get at 29 is going to be flawed.

I think he is the biggest immediate difference maker that we have a chance of getting.

I can't imagine any scenario where we go EDGE over an interior defender for pass rush. Landry, Beasly and Correa are clearly the rotation at edge. Meanwhile we still have a massive hole at DE from Casey departing. Dude played 70-90% of snaps last year, and could you even imagine if Simmons got hurt? Zero interior pass rush. I was fairly sure we'd go CB first round, but if we don't have a plan in place to sign Clowny or someone else for the inside, I can't see us NOT taking an interior rusher round 1.

This ^^^

I would bet all my moolah, if JC didn't already take it, on this. AJ Epenesa or Ross Blacklock(maybe Jordan Elliot). 1 of these guys will be a Titan. Bank on it
