would be nice but won't happen

The Big 10 wants to shrink the number of "power" schools so there is fewer schools to share with. They will absorb the desirable schools from the other conferences over the next 3-7 years.

They'll go after desirable ACC schools next then finish by pulling in most of the SEC.

Texas, A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri will be the first to go as they have less loyalty. After that, we've seen how quickly dominos can fall.

The NCAA is worried because they can see what's happening https://www.si.com/college/2023/08/07/ncaa-conference-realignment-charlie-baker-statement

Money!

Don't let on field football success sentiment cloud your judgement.

Big 10 is run by sharks. The SEC is still run by the good old boys club.

Big 10 has a stranglehold on the 4 biggest media markets in the country. They are in every corner of the country other than the southeast. And if rumors are true they will be in Florida before long.

They have the ability to get TV contracts SEC teams can only dream of.

If I'm not mistaken, and 2020 notwithstanding, Big 10 teams already make more money from TV.

The projections I have seen have SEC making over 100mil per school within 3 years and Big10 making 75mil per school. I guess we will need to see it play out before declaring a winner.

The Big 10 has always been ahead of the SEC in TV money and that was before they added two huge media markets.

LA County alone is bigger than all SEC states other than Florida (which is shared with the ACC) and Texas. And that's just one SoCal county.

If the Big 10 gets FSU then forget about it, they are the future.

Sure, but those people have to watch college football, which has been a bigger and bigger problem with the west coast schools. They have so many options on the west coast that college football is down the list.

They also have to watch teams that can’t win a national title.

Even if "way down" it's still a much bigger audience.

That's will the giant audience they already have. The media markets the Big 10 own dwarf everyone else put together. It's not even close.

And a decade from now those same schools will be winning national titles in the Big 10. Because the sharks running the big 10 have outmaneuvered the old boys in the SEC.

SEC SEC SEC !!!

To help the SEC save face they might absorb the the SEC and disguise it as a merger. Happens all the time in the business world.
