Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

I think you throw the word “Great” around way too easily.

I thought we took a RB too early.
Our Edge group is still trash. How can anyone say Gilbert and Correa are any good?
We replaced Casey and Autism Johnson with Murcheson, so there’s still a huge hole there.
I think I only used "great" once at the very end to talk about Tye Smith but potato tomato.

Disagree we took a RB too early. The top 14 RB's in the draft were all gone by the time we picked again in the 5th. Evans can be an impact player and provide versatility and another home run threat from Day 1. Completely worth a 3rd IMO.

Landry, Beasley and Correa are far from trash. Gilbert is more quality depth than a starter obviously.

Totally agree that we need extra help on the Dline as I said above.

QB: The backup slot is a concern. I didn't expect to address that with the draft. We may sign a vet. We may not.

RB: I'm pumped. I think Evans will immediately be an upgrade to Lewis.

WR: I would have liked to have gotten a WR at some point, but we can address WR4 with a vet or a pickup once players are cut.

TE: We have demonstrated that we can pick up someone during the season and have them make a couple of plays if needed. Not worried.

OL: I think we are in decent shape here.

DL: Simmons and Jones play big roles. Crawford is a servicable vet. Murchison and Mack will get a chance. We can probably add veteran depth here, too.

Edge: I like our guys, especially if we do get Clowney.

ILB: Brown, Evans, Long a strength

DB: We got one of the best safety duos and depth. Fulton, Butler, Jackson are a solid top 3. Smith is decent. Hooker and Jackson will probably be some depth too. I'd love to bring back Brock, but we'll see.

K: Didn't expect or especially want help in the draft. College success doesn't seem to translate into pro success like it does with other positions. Well bring someone in and go with whoever handles the process best. That may be an UDFA, that may be a vet.

I think we still bring in at least 4 or 5 vets before the season, but we are in okay shape right now.

This is interesting. I was curious what happened to our 4th round pick we sent to Miami for Tanny.

Part 1. Miami Traded Ryan Tannehill, 2019 sixth round pick (#188-David Long Jr.) to Titans for 2019 seventh round pick (#233-Chandler Cox) and 2020 fourth round pick.

But then,

Pittsburgh Traded 2020 first round pick (#18-Austin Jackson), 2020 fifth round pick (#154-Jason Strowbridge) and 2021 sixth round pick (?-?) to Dolphins for Minkah Fitzpatrick, OUR 2020 fourth round pick (#135-Kevin Dotson) and 2021 seventh round pick (?-?).

So Chandler Cox on the Dolphins and Kevin Dotson on the Steelers became Ryan Tannehill and David Long.

Will be fun to see how this plays out over time.

Sidenote: We took Cole "Sunshine" Mcdonald with the Browns Taywan Taylor pick.

The Titans don’t need to keep up with the Texans at all. The Titans are a better team right now,

Having said that the Titans don’t keep up with the Chiefs by signing more WRs. They do it by playing defense.

The Texans and Chiefs aren’t loaded at WR. They don’t have a single WR better than AJ Brown. They have a bunch of fast guys. The Chiefs are loaded at QB, TE and Offensive scheme. The Texans are trash. Bad coach and bunch of often injured little WRs. No Hopkins is going to kill them. Watson will be a different QB

The Titans WR group is good. They will have a real QB throwing the ball for a full camp and full season.

Drafting a WR wasn’t a priority with everything that’s out there. Finding a legit pass rush is the main priority.

Disagree entirely. Tajae was in at least 15 snaps a game throughout the entire season. Even when Hump was healthy. Often he was in 25-35 snaps a game with a healthy Hump. We need another outside receiver.
It was an uneven year for the WRs.

AJ Brown's snaps steadily increased from the beginning of the season. Week 1 he had 25. Week 15 he had 62. Sharpe got some of those early snaps.

Then Humphries got hurt and Sharpe got those snaps.

I really don't think we're missing out on much. We could go out and get a guy like Rishard Higgins and likely not miss a beat.

I think the next step is a clear one... Clowney. A lot of people are gonna go crazy if he signs somewhere else. I’ll be shocked as well.

I saw two names mentioned in this thread that have me intrigued:

First, I Ike the Evans pick and think we are solid at RB. I thought we would take Akers or any of the other backs Tier 1 guys if they fell. I’m happy with Evans. Obviously we need a 3rd. David Fluellen has been solid depth and I was actually excited to see him come in last year in more of a FB role. I’m interested to see if that’s still the case. I think he adds more value than Devonta Freeman is Chris Thompson now that we have Evans. Cheaper too.

I too was thinking we’d take a flyer on a late round WR, but I’m happy with the other depth picks made. We’ll definitely have a chance to pick up a solid player after cuts. Taywan Taylor anyone? I’m not saying he’s my top choice but that would be a baller GM move. Get a draft pick for someone you can bring right back next year. I would prefer more of a dependable possession guy. Tajae had some clutch 3rd down catches. Taylor would be fun to see though. Redemption.

I wouldn’t be surprised if also bring in another TE or vet QB that becomes available.

All in all, good draft that looks even better if we do sign the Clown.

Really good point not yet mentioned.

Assuming Clowney is on board, the only positions that make me nervous are K and backup QB.

I do wish we had done more about K. But then, as a long time titans fan, K is one of the few positions where I'm spoiled.

Backup qb is tough. Don't have the cap to get a real good option. Hopefully Tannehill stays healthy.

Thoughts on the tight end position?

Not bad. Jonnu is a quality starter and Firsker and Pruitt are quality back-ups. I do wish we had taken Trautman or Hopkins in the draft, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Maybe we can still sign Burton or trade for OJ to give us a great set of starting TEs. But that's just me and I like having options.

Could we double dip with Miami to get another back-up QB? Josh Rosen could be had for a song at this point. He's been quite terrible so far in his career, though his circumstances haven't been super fortunate either, playing behind 2 terrible OL's on 2 pretty awful teams.

Not a bad idea but I just looked it up and Burton signed with the Colts before the draft. Damn it that team has improved this offseason. Really hope Rivers screws the pooch, but the team carries him to like 8-8. The rest of that team really is well set up for a plug-and-play QB. I could see them make a run against the Ravens or Chiefs.

What would also suck is if they win 2 games again and are in first place on the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes.
