TE Jonnu Smith is being acquired via trade with the Patriots in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round draft pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports. This trade has been agreed to but cannot be completed until the new league year begins on March 15.

Luckily Swaim wasn't signed away on day 1 of FA.... so we got a shot at bringing him back... but my sources say that Downing is really lobbying the Jets to pick him up because he has designed some nice plays to get the ball into Swaim's hands

I remember lots of arguments 2017 was a big TE draft, then OJ Howard and Njoku did what they’ve done. Wasnt a big TE draft at all in hindsight, just early picked TE.
Titans got Jonnu Smith in the 3rd rnd and Kittle went in the 5th rnd... I think it was a deep draft at TE
If anything, this proves that there shouldn’t be much excitement for TE.
the drooling was over the guys who went 1st round , Howard, Engram, Njoku. All of them did marginal at best with the team that drafted them and only Engram has put up a season worth mentioning.
so as far as “smart move” by the Raiders, it seems to me they have away a proven stud TE for a chance at a bunch of maybes, and if the “deep TE class” works like the previous deep TE class, they’re best bet is just a late round guess.
