If we kept Conklin we wouldn't have drafted Wilson, probably would have drafted someone to actually help the D
Not likely.

Look at the defenders who were drafted immediately behind Wilson. 3 CBs, which was addressed with the Fulton pick, and a MLB, which was obviously not going to be selected because of Evans and Brown being starters. The first pass rusher off the board after Wilson ended the season with a whopping 2.5 sacks.

We may have drafted a body to play defense, but I don't know how much it would have actually helped.

Tee Higgins was far and away the most productive guy drafted in that range, and we likely would not have selected him either. Although with us not picking up CD's option it may have been a consideration.

So, greater production at a fraction of the cost of Vic and Clowney. That would have been the smart move. Good point.
I can't and won't argue that a sack of potatoes wouldn’t have been better than those two.

The point remains, paying a guy half Conklin's salary and using it for other resources and maintaining the offensive production was the way to go. The moves we made after that were wrong.

Can't get them all right. Ideally you get more than 1/4 right though.

If we kept conklin it would have been on a 3+ year deal, meaning it would impact our ability to do anything in the next 2 offseasons.

Not saying your wrong, but theres more to this one.

Yeah would be nice to have Conklin but our o-line hasn't been an issue even with the injuries and Wilson being a turd. And still having Conklin would really hamper us these next two years cap wise. So all in all I think Conklin leaving was a good thing. Glad he's doing well in Cleveland though, I was worried about him after his acl

I'm going to present a contrarian viewpoint that might surprise some of you. Keeping in mind that I cried, literally cried when we drafted Derrick Henry. I was driving home from work in Nashville and just could not believe that man was going to be a Titan.

First of all the MVP should almost always be a QB. QBs are by far the most important players in this sport and far more important than any RB. Only in the most unusual season should a QB not win if you go by the true meaning of that term. Most valuable player.

In 1986 Lawrence Taylor was probably the true MVP. In 2000 Ray Lewis(murderer) was without a doubt the MVP. Other than those 2 outliers I cannot see any others. If this was a year where no one QB distinguished himself as elite you might make a case for Henry but it is now. nobody can honestly say that #22 is more important to our team than Rogers or Mahomes are for their teams. If you are honest about it.

Another thing about a 2000 yard runner. It is often a negative indicator. A team should not normally have a back with that much yardage and often the team was not really successful. Often they have little else. We were 8-8 in 09 when Chris Johnson did it.

Only one team won a super bowl with a 2000 yard back. Broncos in 98 with Terrell Davis. The Rams did make it to the NFC championship in 85 with Eric Dickerson and did not score a point in that game. What does that tell you?

A 2000 yard season for a back often means a downturn in that player's career. Certainly did not CJ. We hope that is not the case for #22.

If we are going to use 20/20 hindsight about the right tackle position we should have signed Mitchell Schwartz in the off season of 2016 instead of Ben Jones and used that pick on Ryan Kelly. Schwartz's deal with KC was a damn bargain for just $6.6M. He has been arguably the best RT in the game and better than Conklin. Kelly is a little better than Jones.

Credit can also be given to the opponent at times. Ravens certainly executed in stopping the run. What happens if Rogers gets picked twice and sacked 5 times in a blowout loss?

Ravens barely one that game despite our blunders and virtually no run game. If I’m a Ravens fan, I walk away from that game nervous AF.
