I doubt several weeks, the incision they make nowadays days is small, they get it with a scope. If caught early and the appendix hasn't ruptured he'll be good to go. Had my appendix rupture while camping when I was 10, parents thought I was sick, it almost killed me. Was in hospital for 4 months and a ton of time at home healing as well.
