Brian Flores suing the NFL for “racism”

I'd imagine the NFL will do everything in its power to avoid the discovery requests that Flores' lawyers will serve on them. May not be anything there with regarding Flores specifically, but most fans feel that many of the interviews of black candidates for head coaching positions have been nothing but shams to comply with the Rooney Rule.

Going to take a lot more than some text messages to prove that Daboll was truly inked already before his interview took place.

That can easily be mistaken for Daboll being the lead candidate after his interview.

But yes, the Rooney Rule does not really serve much of a purpose. It’s a PR move and has been from the start. They should just get rid of it and teams can hire whoever they want/feel is the best candidate.

I wouldn't be surprised if one Flores' actual goals is try to somehow improve the hiring procedures for NFL coaches as his petition is structured as a class action complaint.

Regardless of the merits of his claim, in general, proving a racial discrimination claim is not easy. I did a few of them when I practiced civil litigation here in Texas and well, they made family law cases look appealing.

Teams who have minorities promoted to HC or GM get draft picks now. I’m not sure how else to incentivize it. But trying to force it will only hurt the process.

Not sure if it could ever be proven in court, but NFL will low key pay him to drop the lawsuit. Honestly thought he did a decent job this year though.

I mean, the Flores firing was one of the most mind boggling firings at that time so…

Belichick plays chess while others play checkers, so I wonder if those texts sent weren’t a mistake after all and it was a disguised tip to Flores.

Giants had already interviewed Leslie Frasier, so not sure how Flores can cry racism when the Rooney rule had already been satisfied. That was not the reason he was interviewed.

The rule itself is not good. Easily maneuvered around. No reason to have it either. A person shouldn't be interviewed or hired just because of the color of there skin. It should be about who the owner/GM wants. Teams shouldn't be put in the awkward position of token interviews.

Yeah the Rooney rule always felt really forced and short sighted to me.

Four head coaching openings down, five to go ...4 white guys

Raiders - Josh McDaniels
Jaguars - ?
Broncos - Nathaniel Hackett
Vikings- ?
Bears- Matt Eberflus
Dolphins - ?
Giants - Brian Daboll
Texans- ?
Saints - ?

So what? That’s who those teams felt gave them the best chance to win. Hard to argue with any of them either.
