Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

They were talking about this possibility on 104.5 this afternoon. Wyatt said he doubts it would happen because Williams "doesn't fit the mold of the type of guys Munch hires" (I guess by that he means Williams is actually competent) and "Williams would overshadow Munch".

I think this has real potential. Williams, Gray, Munchak and the Titans ALL benefit from him being brought on board. Now as PK points out, he would most likely get some assistant position- not DC. But we (and Munchak) desperately need his experience. I don't have any doubt that GW has a greater depth and breadth of NFL Defensive knowledge. He also has a SB ring. I believe the players would respond to him.

Some may disagree, but I believe this would be a brilliant move by the organization with very little risk involved. I'd pull the trigger if I was in charge.

Pure clickbait speculation from the same guy who said the Titans should have traded their 2012 first round pick for Dwight Freeney. I started tuning PK out a long time ago.

So sick of the same people coming back and replacing each other year after year.. I give up if this happens, I just WILL NOT care how bad this team sucks, they refuse to learn.

I would be okay with it. Most of us have been echoing Verner's opinion that this defence needs more edge, more attitude. GW would bring it.

I could see him joining as a assistant and if Munch gets the boot, Williams takes over. I might be wrong but didnt Gray coach under Williams Def at some point?

I thought that at first but the addition of Williams as an assistant makes a lot of sense for all parties involved. Williams get an entry level job and his butt is on the line as well so he'll definitely be motivated to produce. Gray and Munchak's jobs also on the line- they need to produce and Williams provides familiarity with the Titans (which Munchak/Bud seem to require) and he provides great depth/breadth of experience in DC, HC and Super Bowl.

I get that fans are tired of "familiar" hires. But honestly in this situation, I don't think the Titans/Munchak are planning on hiring ANYBODY to replace Gray. The addition of GW as an assistant provides Munchak, Gray, and the players a highly motivated resource with great experience.

Greg Williams huh? Dude is a azzhole, but that doesn't make him a bad coach or motivator.

A few weeks ago we talked about this happening and at first I was like hell no, but that was back when Jerry Gray could have still been fired, so I was holding out hope we could do better than Williams, but clearly we can't.

This would help our team I think, so I guess count me in.

i'm against it simply because if it turns out to be a good move and we improve some that means we would have munch and company for another year after that....

with the problems this team has as far as holes to fill, and a tight @$$ owner who wont fill some through free agency we have to rely on draft picks only which we have to many holes for...no one suitable to run the defense, and the division that we are in...i just cant see it from where we are this year to playoffs next year...

So then Munch would be gone anyways no matter who he brings in.

Bringing in Williams can't hurt.

I know I've been saying I'm sick of the retread hires too, but this is one exception I'd be okay with. Only because Gray is here to stay and our defense is an absolute joke. Our defense needs some freaking attitude. I'm not worried about Williams getting in trouble again. He'd have to be 'Kenny Britt dumb' to try anything after what he's just been through.

The down side to bringing him onboard, as has already been mentioned, is that we might be setting ourselves up for yet another "in-house promotion" to HC when Munch is inevitably canned. But hell, at least the guy is remotely qualified and is experienced. It's going to be tough for me to be too unhappy about our next hire after the Munch debacle. *knocksonwood*

i see you point...but your telling me that if we slide in to the playoffs by winning our last game and then lose first round, you still wont want munch gone?
