Jeez- does nobody else have a problem with a persons email being exposed and then pulpit bullied into a cancellation of his job? Is there no right to privacy and/or freedom of expression for EVERYONE any more in this country?
I understand his opinions are offensive to many and to influential people’s agenda. But freedom of expression applies to all people otherwise its a myth. This cancel culture is out of control and heading dangerously close to outright censorship.

It's insane. Pretty much anyone can be destroyed at any time at this point. Who among us would survive a fine tooth combing of every dumb thing we've ever said on the internet?

I don’t know the laws in and out but this doesn’t seem like a serious enough “crime” to pursue if found during the WFT investigation.
Yes. Unfortunately the NFL has already set their precedent (regardless that many other businesses also have) and they wouldn’t be considered woke if they DIDNT do something about these comments.

Anyways, Gruden losing his job over something he wrote a decade ago is beyond idiotic. This country is a fucking mess.
It's all because he called Goodell a fag, it became personal. The NFL was going to continue leaking emails until Gruden either quit or was fired. The media would continually harp on the Raiders organization as a whole and they'd be under immense scrutiny to do something about it. I'm not defending Gruden, but I'm sure plenty of coaches and NFL execs have said things just as bad.
I'm guessing close to 100% of the none gay men and boys have used the term queer or fag and many of those who are gay as well. Just a sign of the insanity we have now.
I have absolutely no problem with this. First of all, he sent the emails to numerous people. If he wanted privacy, he should have written his thoughts in his princess diary or screamed them into a pillow. Sending messages like this in group settings is irresponsible and is borderline hate speech. Not to mention he repeatedly insulted the man who is essentially his ultimate boss. Moronic.
Second, he wasn't "cancelled". Just because politicians have made up this shiny new term to give whiners something to cry about, doesn't differentiate it from the "court of public opinion" which has been around since the dawn of civilization. Someone does something bad, people have every right to be angry or shun them. How else will people learn to be more respectful to each other.
Lastly, you seem to be confusing freedom of speech and expression with the freedom to do or say whatever you want without any repercussions whatsoever. Sounds like you want anarchy to me. No one censored Gruden. No one canceled Gruden. No one stopped Gruden from saying whatever he wanted. But actions have consequences. Look up Newtons third law and quit trying to make a racist, bigot the victim here.

The shining light here is that people get treated differently. Right or wrong, it's all circumstantial. Sometimes it's the path you choose. Sometimes the path chooses you. And that's probably a much more interesting debate.
No way that is happening. Some of you just don’t get how toxic these racial comments are and in particular in the sporting world where the vast majority of the players are black. You can recover in this world from recruiting violations, drug and alcohol use, infidelity and many other things. But you can’t recover from and sort of racism or sexual assault/harassment issues. Not in major sport.
Sure, if you live in fantasy land…statues of limitations don’t exist in the court of public opinion. And high profile jobs care a lot about that court.
There was no way he was going to survive this, but it is telling that a lot of the same people defending this and complaining about cancel culture, are ok with Kaepernick being out of the league because they disagree with his political views (because that wasnt cancel culture I guess?). Regardless, teams and the league in general arent going to employ a high profile coach with this type of history of racism, homophobia, and misogyny and it isnt really that difficult to understand why.
