The local reporters probably thought he was just blowing wind. But, it was pretty certain that hire would have been made at the time. The whole presser would have been about why do you need Schwartz if Bowen is the best fit for the team...

Truthfully I am concerned. Reminds me of the phrase too many cooks spoil the broth. With Vrable and him both having their fingers in the defense it will be like a ship with 3 rudders all pointing in different directions.

Valid question but really beats that dead horse from a few weeks ago when the question was, why in the hell, did you promote Bowen to DC?

Yes, and his answer was it was in the best interest of the football team. If I were a reporter, I would have challenged that with the knowledge that Schwartz was brought on. What qualified DC needs a consultant’s help. They knew they would have to deal with it. Good PR move to wait.

You don’t have 3 rudders. You have two planks of wood who would like to be rudders and one actual rudder. Sounds like Schwartz is going to refine the weak parts of the system and Bowen will call the plays. This is MUCH better than having another season where two guys who have not had great success as DC have another blind shot at it. I think Vrabel has shown he is a better HC than a DC and Bowen hasn’t shown anything but ineptitude.

This is a badass hiring. Love it.

Still worried about how our offense will respond to Arthur being gone and a completely new face in, but I think we'll be alright.

I’m pretty sure a lot if not most people were freaking out when Smith was elevated to OC. I think we will be fine. A lot more defense and maybe a little less offense will be a good thing.

I did a bit, but Arthur had some success leading up to the hire -- not only did he climb the ranks, but he handled our tight ends very well as a coach. So it was easy to be pissed for a minute and then go, well let's see what he's got.

Everything Shane Bowen has touched has been pissing into the wind.

Bowen's career in TN -

2018, OLB coach: Orakpo 1.5 sacks, Landry 4.5 sacks, Finch 1.5 sacks, Correa 1.5 sacks.

2019, OLB coach: Landry 9.0 , Correa 5 Gilbert 1.0, Finch 2.0

2020, OLBS & Playcaller: ... Harold Landry, a whopping 5.5 sacks..........

Nothing on that chart shows ANY reason he should have a crack at coordinating, much less playcalling... At least Arthur Smith was directly involved in the success of the tight ends, which were a focal point of our offense in the Mariota years.

Last large scale success of the defense & olbs? -- Dick LeBeau. (Lou Spanos only reported 'Linebacker Coach')

Doesn't schwartz always run 43? I'm so excited that we have him. Dude is a gem

Problem is we're gonna have to draft another DT in the first 4 rounds I believe if that's the case. All these roster fillers we have to rotate in and out of a 3 rotation, simply won't cut it in a 4-3. Teams would just overload the opposite side.

Not sure what your point is. In a 4-3 we need two inside guys. In a 3-4 we need a 5, 3 and NT. Autry probably isn't a good fit at a 3. If we stay in a 3-4 we need a NT to replace Jones. In a 4-3 Murchinson is a good fit at DT.

Schwartz a poor loser baby
Harbaugh was acting like a child, shake hands like a professional, jumping around and the slap on Schwartz's back?...besides we don't know what words were exchanged

No one likes a sore loser but you don’t need to be a gloating winner either

Murchison is NOT a 'good' fit at DT.. Unless you want more results like with Tart..

Is he solid depth? Yes, certainly.

And my point? .. draft a 3rd round DT if it's in the plans of a switch to 4-3 base
