I agree our o line is STILL a major weakness but Kelly is not the answer. I see him and Conklin going somewhere for more money than we can give them. Somebody is gonna over pay for both of them. I would prefer to sign Henry and Tannehill to long term contracts and franchise Conklin.

Conklin is not worth the franchise tag. You don’t pay a right tackle the average salary of the top 5 LTs in the league. It just doesn’t makes sense.

I'm looking at options to be able to keep him. I don't think we can match anybody else's offer. If we franchise him and someone else wants him bad enough they would have to pay 2 firsts for him

How much is Conk worth though? If there are legit teams already talking about opening up the wallet, I think we have to let him walk. Just not enough money for all the FA. I think Ryan walks too but not as big a deal.

I would rather see Kelly resigned as insurance if a FA or draft pick really isn’t good/ready.
Not the point, though... sounding like people are fine with Conk going and not even talking about a good option after... as if the line is fine.

Not keeping Conk is fine, but a good alternative needs to be looked into.

Shoot, if we can franchise him and then trade him for an early 2nd we should do it. He would be overpaid and we could draft someone to eventually replace Kelly with that pick.

I don't believe Conk is "the guy"... but we can't really afford to diminish the Oline and not look to help it.

Improved Dline is a must... but not at the risk of worsening an already suspect Oline.

I agree with this, but my gut is that, since there is a dearth of available OTs on the market this offseason, the price for Conklin will be well above his market value. Unfortunate but likely IMO.

As such, I see us pushing to re-sign Kelley and go OT high in the draft....

OK but we would be paying way to much of our cap to a right tackle. You can’t spend the money that way and not negatively effect the team in other ways. If you can’t sign him you let him walk and replace him with a free agent at a lower price or via the draft. The solution is not to over pay him.

Actually it would only cost 16 million for the tag so it's not that bad. With close to 80 million(once we drop Succop, Walker, Lewis, and Wake)we should be able to tag him and not hurt us. It's also rumored that the rolling salary cap over to the next year thing may be over with so why not spend it?

We have a lot of guys to replace this year man. And people want to add pass rush. I think your 80 mill is too high. I am seeing numbers closer to 50 mill and cutting those guys gets you to 65-66. That money goes fast with signing Tannehill, Henry, and Conklin. Plus adding some sort of pass rush and filling like 15 other free agent spots and a draft class. Maybe we can play within the numbers and back load some big deals to make it work, but the back loading is where you get into trouble down the road. Just don’t think it is the wisest way to construct your team.

We are currently at 48 million and cutting those 4 would give us 25 so that would put us at 73 million. That is plenty to do what we need to do. We will probably ask Butler and Casey to renegotiate so that would be more. Giving Conklin the tag wouldn't kill us. Would also allow us to try a sign and trade situation. Most of our free agents can be resigned or find adequate replacements pretty cheap. So sign Tannehill and Henry. Tag Conklin and draft pass rush.

You are off on what those guys will save us I believe. Are calculating dead money? Cutting Succop leaves us with like 2-3 mill of the 4 mill he is due in dead money. You save hardly anything. All the others have dead money too just a lower percentage. And those other free agents we need to replace can’t all be super cheap or the quality of your team overall goes down. Also Conk is not that great and we can replace his production for less than what he will cost I am guessing. We can agree to disagree—I am pretty confident they won’t tag Conklin.

What do we think the price for Henry and Tannehill will be if we sign both (do not franchise Tannehill)? I had been assuming that to keep both Henry and Tannehill and not go into cap purgatory we would need to franchise Tannehill....but I am not as up on these numbers as others on this board admittedly.

Of the OL problems we’ve had, Conk seems the least of the issue.
While I’m ok moving on from him, then don’t see how him and Kelly getting paid elsewhere helps this OL. If conk can be had for a reasonable contract (I don’t think he can) I’d love for him to stay as probably the best OLman we have.

I don't know the numbers but I know by listening to Floyd Reese that we can sign them both and work it to where we have plenty for other needs. I would expect Tannehill to get 25-30 and Henry 13-15 which would probably be front loaded.

Thanks....that would be good. I would be willing to overpay Henry on the front end in return for a shorter deal (3 years). IMO the way we are running him he will be close to out of gas by then...

I think both of them get 3 year deals with options for 4th.i would expect us to draft a qb for the future at some point in the next couple years. As for a back up next year. I would love McCarron.

In fairness, isn’t Reese the guy who destroyed the titans in 04’ due to his poor management of contracts?
