I would like some of you who have a better understanding of the salary cap and restructures to weight in...

2023 27mil base salary 5mil signing bonus 4.6mil restructure 36.6mil cap hit 18.8mil dead cap

2024 0 base salary 0 signing bonus 4.6mil restructure 4.6mil cap hit 9.2mil dead cap

2025 0 base salary 0 signing bonus 4.6mil restructure 4.6mil cap hit 4.6mil dead cap

Ryan Tannehill

What should the new GM do with this?

The 9.2mil over 2 years is what Jon did prior and this is the repercussions of restructuring. So Ryan gets paid by us even if he's not on the team. There is outs I.e offering Ryan a new contract and taking away the restructuring or including into the new. Signing bonus is guaranteed money straight in the bank for the year. So when players get stupid guaranteed money in the new contract it's not all straight in the bank of said player. Owner signs check for all guaranteed owed there and then they say but can be given out whenever owner decides to pay over the duration of contract year by year.

I think we should sign tanny for another 2 years to get us over the qb hump we're going to find ourselves in. We ain't going to get 1 this year unless we get lucky in the later rounds. Plus there's not any free agent qbs I'd trust in either, Ryan will be cheaper and got more chemistry with the team. 50 mil guaranteed for another 2 years and even out the spread of cap hit over 3 years. We'll save like 8-9 mil on this years cap and Ryan knows he'll be lucky to get a better deal else where.

Vrabs said he wants Tannehill to be his QB this year. That's really the best option the Titans have anyway.

We know Willis isn't it. Even if they draft a rookie, chances are they won't be NFL ready and would need Tannehill to start anyway.

Beef up the OLine, grab a receiver or 2 and hire a good OC.

Is the dead cap hit any less post June 1st?
Seems like the only hope is he restructures. At this point it’s probably best to keep him another year

I would restructure it for 2 years to lessen the cap hit this coming season, BUT we have to start looking to the future unless our plan is to go through veteran QB's forever.

Salary cap has to be sorted by end of april or something. Pretty sure it's a month or so before 1 June. You are taking a risk relying on free agents being there if you plan cutting post 1 june.

See how this same deal can be spread out over 3 years instead of 4 and the salary cap hit not be so large this year.

Not sure how that would look in a contract but if 3/ $60 mil with appx $20 mil cap hit each year would be better for the team and give time to find a replacement or give any replacement rookie a 1-2 years to sit and learn.

They get 2 "post June 1st" designations per year. If they cut a player pre June first, all signing bonuses are due then. If the designate for post June 1st, it's spread over that year and the next year's cap. So you actually cut the player before June but get the cap savings.

I dont know if it is possible but if it were I would try something like dropping 10mil from this season and adding it to next season, so we end up with 14mil next season and 26mil this season. We are 8mil over the cap I do believe, as we sit right now.

Unless it's changed, you can designate 2 players as post June 1 cuts, but cut them in March.

2 options

1. Cut him with post-June 1 designation
$9.6m dead cap, $27m total cap savings

2. Restructure to clear space and keep him around another year or two

Can’t keep him on the roster with his contract as-is. This will depend on if the new GM/OC want to keep him around and if he’s willing to restructure. I’d guess he takes the restructure. Just hope it’s team friendly.
I still have faith that Tannehill can get it done if he’s got the support around him with OC/OL/WR and health. None of which he had this year.

I don't see any other option unless they are willing to tank the season of they think there is some hidden gem available in the draft. Any other vet is going to be around the same money as Tannehill, I'd think.

If a new GM comes in and even thinks of starting Malik Willis, they should be fired immediately. Hell, I'd kind of question em if they even keep Willis on the roster to be honest.

zero risk in putting mw7 on PS ... nobody gonna claim him cause they would have to put him on their 53 for what... a month? rest of season? something like that. Only a stupid GM would put a team in such a clearly noncompetitive position... just sayin'

That’s the answer!

Try to find his replacement next year in the draft at all cost once this line is revamped.

Agree, it makes the most since to try and keep him with a team friendly deal. Pretty sure that’s what’s going to happen.
