I don't mind Lasers but you can tell it's not Lupe's album, so I don't know why you would chose it as a starters album.

It depends on the audience. Most people listen to radio music and sadly thing they look for the most in music is production value. Since Lasers has a pop sound, it'd would be easier to catch one's attention first before they start to truly appreciate his purer stuff (Food & Liquor).
Not saying that's what happened with you, but two of my friends got hooked on Lupe and the first album they listened to all the way though was Lasers.
