Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

I was thinking about the comments regarding his lack of reps/blaming the COVID preseason and camps as somewhat of an excuse for this guy.

I just wanted to say BS regarding all that. This guy is a kicker. COVID doesn’t limit him from reps in the slightest, he can go kick all day every day.
That said, he’s also a 14 year vet and has the 27th most, in game, FG att of all time. That doesn’t even count post season att.

This guy is a career 88% K including 75% 40-49.

Him sucking like he just did is a GIANT red flag that he hasn’t recovered from his injury and is about to repeat Succup’s terrible season from last year.
Few days till the Jax game, there should be another Kicker available on the roster now. I know we have other weak points, but like last year, suit up 2 kickers. Gostkowski misses his first att, he’s done and gets cut after the game. Don’t waste any more season on him.
The exception here is that it is different kicking on a practice field and kicking in game conditions - even pre-season games.

So they are going to trot this corpse out for another game? Yikes. Hopefully chipping in the game winner gives him some confidence but he looked pretty toasted.

Nothing wrong with his leg strength at all. His kick offs proved that. It’s his mental game that let him(us) down 4 out of 5 tries.

I hate how people act like kicking is a piece of cake when in fact is super difficult.People assume that kicking by yourself is the same as in game kicking which is also a lie.

Kicking is freaking hard go around the league and see how almost everyone struggle it wasen't just Gostkowski not everyone can do it and if the coach truly doesn't give a peep about it your team will struggle to find or developed a good one which is what's going on here.

So if Gostkowski bombs this week too our plan B is either a rookie or another wash up vet a.k.a the same as Gostkowski who I gunreented will struggle too.

This is a easy fix and is practicing kicking in practice with a full team which I bet Vrabel just doesn't care about.

1/4 FG, 1/2 xp

Even if kicking isn’t “easy”, this is not even good enough to say under performing.
He made a 25 yard FG, and yes, at that distance, people in this forum could make it.
As far as around the league goes, the titans were historically bad last year, not just around the bottom of the league, but the first team in 30 years to kick less than 50% as a team.

The hate on him wouldn’t be nearly as high even if he goes 2/4, 2/2 xp. He’s earned the comments and concern and his level of suck week 1 is not overdone.

True, but what will you have to say if he’s %100 from 48 next week? For 3 and 2 xp

I can hope.
Lord know I did last year for Succup, Santos, Parker, Joseph, not to mention the couple weird weeks we carried 2 Kickers with Santoso who was supposed to be some sort of KO specialist and wasn’t.

I give Gostkowski benefit that he may not be fully recovered. I don’t give JRob benefit for signing a kicker that may not be fully recovered considering the Kicking nightmare last year.
I still recommend signing another Kicker for this week and putting him in uniform, Gostkowski is kicking for his job.

I understand, just think you and I kicked the door in too soon! He just arrived, strange year, etc., I think it’s gonna be ok. No need to dress 2 this week imo

I hate when people act like they know more about professional football than they actually know.

I think more to the point is this dude is PAID to kick. Regardless of the difficulty level, if you can’t kick, you don’t have a job. No?
Sure. The problem comes when you apply that same logic to all positions.what do you do if a lineman allows a sack? Or a DE allows a run to the outside?

If they allow them at a rate of 75% (same percent missed FG) they lose their job albeit probably not after 1 game.

.

I took your advice, Mrs. Gostkowski, and went around the league to see this mighty struggle you reference:

XP by kickers not named SG: 81/85. 95%

SG: 50%

FG by kickers not named SG: 50/66. 76%

SG: 25%

FG 40-49yds by kickers not named SG: 15/19 79%

SG: 0%

what’s amazing that you point out- all other kickers available are terrible or washed up. it just happens that there are only 31 good kickers.

But I do admire your backing him, and I AM in favor of anither game hoping he turns it around.

I play college football as a kicker.

What I'm trying to say in my post is more about how our coach handles kicking this has been going on since last year.

He just doesn't practice it is that simple.

you “play college football as a kicker...”?

what a coincidence! I play college football as a quarterback. and Jessica above plays college football as a middle linebacker.
