Titans Talk - Home for all things Tennessee Titans

I think right now Young thinks about Throwing before running. Sure he runs great, but from the games I have seen him in, he seems to go thru his progressions before running. Now, he may not go thru all of them or let the play develop enough, but that can be taught. I think right now he is more prepared to be a QB in the NFL than the last "running" QB, Michael Vick.

Prag, I think that is a good opinion based on what I've read from scouts so far. But I also think there has been some misinformation on Young.

Another Source...

From the Houston Chronicle

Young, Leinart won't throw

The combine invited 330 prospects from 105 schools. Most will work out at the RCA Dome. Young and USC's Matt Leinart will not throw. They'll wait until the Longhorns' and Trojans' pro days.

As much as fans and teams complain about this, I wouldnt do it in their shoes either. They have nothing to gain from it. They are already slotted to be the 2nd and 3rd players off the board, and they cant improve their standing. The only thing they could do is hurt it.

Jay Cutler will because he is trying to move up the draft board.

That only holds true if teams do in fact rate both at the top. But taking Young as an example, nobody knows how much of an issue his mechanics are for a given team. And not working out at the combine is one less chance to prove to these teams that it's nothing to worry about.

As I believe Pat Kirwan wrote, there's no reason not to compete in the combine unless you have something to hide. Especially this year where they're not guaranteed to be in the top 3 maybe not even top 10. Just look at what happened to Rodgers.

Vigsted...

Right now, Bush, Young and Leinhart are consensus top 3 picks. The only thing right now that they could do to drop out of the top 3 is to have a bad work out. This is not the first time top players haven't participated in the combine.

BTW, is Bush participating?

Really? So you know for a fact that those 3 players are the ones the top 3 teams are going to draft? No, it's a consenus among a number of "draftexperts" in the media and regular fans. But we have no idea how the individual clubs rate them. Hell Titans could have Bush lower than White if they feel he's too small and fragile. You just never know.

Again...it isn't hard to grasp. The top 3 players in the draft have only 1 way to go. Down. It isn't like they won't be working out...they will hold private workouts and Pro Days at their school.

You act like this is the first year ever than players have held out of the combine. It is more common than not that the top players draft.

No, I've always felt that everyone should work out. And personally I question anyone who chooses not to. How many workplaces apart from the NFL allow you to refuse a job aptitude test and insist on taking it at "home" where you're more comfortable?

I mean I understand why Young won't throw, because I do question his ability. I just feel the NFL should make it a requirement to participate in the Combine that you do all the drills. As it is now Bush, Leinart and Young are just freeloading, getting interviews for free, whereas players like Brick, Hawk, etc. have to work for it. But that's just my opinion.

who cares if Young is at the combine. It seems more and more that players are holding there own combines so they are the star of the show.

Personally I hope Young flops in his. I do not think he is the QB of the future for the Titans. Running QB's don't survive that long.
Yeah, eleven years ago we drafted a running quarterback. What a mistake that was.

Every player holds his own combine. They have for years. Called Pro Days.
They will do EVERY drill that is done at the combine. They just choose to do it in a more comfortable surroundings. I don't see why so many are getting their panties in a wad over this. It ain't that big of a deal.

As far as Young's arm, his arm is very strong and he was the top rated QB in college football.

Even if Young and Leinart did throw at the combine, if we were making our decision based on this as opposed to studying 3+ years of game film from each player, then shame on us.

It IS a good point. So why don't they compete? I have to go with Vigsted on this one. Teams are not going to be basing their decisions soley on how they do in the combine. They are going to take into accout that they dont know their recievers and that its just one workout. But it is also the one time to compete against the others prospects on an even playing field (more of less). And face it, these guys don't want to do that. They WANT all the advantages they can get.

I think they are over estimating their place on teams boards and they are trying to play conservative by hiding their weaknesses. I don't really blame them, but I am a bit dissappointed in their decisions. I want to see and hear about competitions, not political manuevering (sp?)- :hmm: Ok, I actually like to follow politics- but not when it comes to the draft. - and I want a competitor for our franchise guy- a guy that truly believes and WANTS to compete to show it- not a guy that wants to sit and collect accolades from his team's success.

Would you want Reggie Bush if he fell to us?

Would I want him, yes. Do I think we should get him, no. Its one of those really difficult decisions. Bush is and is going to continue to be an electifying player. But we need a franchise qb and I dont see us being is this position again, where we have a commanding draft position and three potential franchise qbs in the draft. If bush was going to be a Barry Sanders running back with both the explosivenes and power, then I might be able to say a franchise rb instead would work. But I dont know if Bush can be that type of running back. He is going to be scary good yes. But I dont know if he can take over an nfl game. Thats the only way I see that you want a franchise rb over a franchise qb. So, no. I would still get our franchise qb. :hmm:

Young will not show-off.

I just read a story whereas Young will attend the combine but will not throw or run. Is he affraid of being nailed a one-game-wonder?
Young runs/scrambles well and has a strong arm, why hide them?
I don't understand his decision.
"I'm getting drafted 1,2 or 3, I don't need to do all that crap!" Is that his thinking?
