Will make bank though. Guaranteed.
I'm really not convinced.

$150 million budget without advertisements. It will need to make about $320 million globally to be considered "successful."

Who is the audience? It's not old Ghostbusters fans. It's not really aimed at kids, considering there has been no recent cartoon or video game.

What you consider "successful" and what the studio considers "profitable" are two different things though.

When all is said and done this thing is going to make plenty of money.

Oh I think they made this thing hoping to make a series. If it doesn't make double its budget along with advertising it will be a failure because two years from now they won't make a sequel.

Yeah maybe it doesn't become a franchise but still will be plenty profitable. That's the thing, as long as the studios are making money it's no harm, no foul for them. So the remakes/reboots/rewhatevers aren't about to stop.

It will have a decent to good opening weekend, but I foresee a big drop-off the second weekend and on.

Considering the amount of money budgeted to make the movie, add in the advertising budget... this movie will beeak even, at best.

It's Sony Pictures. They are a BAD company to begin with. The executives don't have a clue.

I don't see anyone with an undercut.

Me either.

I truly don't understand why everyone is crapping all over this movie before it's released. The original was TWO GENERATIONS AGO and if this is going to "ruin your childhood" then you childhood was already s**t and GB was only 90 minutes of it.
So it's a female cast. SO FUGGIN WHAT??
There's even some ahole movie critic who has decided that he's just not going to see it, despite the fact that his job is being a movie critic and that logically requires SEEING THE MOVIE, but no, he's just gonna pan it entirely out of hand and convince all his audience to do the same for apparently no reason whatsoever. It is worth actual career suicide for him. Amazing.

James Rolfe. Huge Ghostbusters fan. He gave a pretty calm, rational explanation as to why he wouldn't see it.

He basically made the video so no one would ask him to review the movie.

Um...no. There's nothing calm and rational about that. He's a moron. He doesn't seem to grasp that it's a remake and not a continuation of the franchise. He claims GB is the greatest comedy ever made. He doesn't understand that the younger generation today doesn't GAF about 1984. He makes ridiculous comparisons about the SFX. This is considerably different from my boycott of the remake of "Arthur" because Dudley Moore won an Oscar for a part that he mostly improvised and which cannot be topped ever by anyone and because Hobson as a female is just a b***h and therefore cannot be funny. GB has been a Saturday morning cartoon ffs; how can THAT be acceptable but a remake 30 years later not? Even worse, he went Star Wars with it: "give us the characters we know and love and then pass the torch..." NO. The current audience does not know or love those characters. He bashes the jokes in the trailer (which aren't that bad) but none of the jokes in the 1984 trailer were any good either; "okay...so...she's a dog." would've made no sense in a trailer. He has a right to avoid it, but just be honest about it: "I want to live in the past and I don't want to run the RISK of being disappointed..." Don't be panning something you know nothing about. Prejudice prior to investigation still sucks.

Because it looks like shit.

You don't understand a certain demographic if you don't get why everyone's so adamantly against this film.

I don't have any interest in it. Doesn't look funny. But I don't go around crying about it nonstop.

These are the same people that cried about females taking lead roles in Star Wars. It isn't about the film itself.
